Scarborough Zine Library, formed by artists/zine librarians Joel Hague and Nathan Wackett with support from Crescent Arts, is an open and accessible archive of local (and also wide-ranging) zines and small indie publications.

We’re at Sequent’ull this weekend doing a drop in zine workshop! Free, all materials provided, just rock up and make some zines with us! As per usual, we’ll have our portable library with us and a selection of our collection for you to peruse. See you there!

We’re at ! And we’re doing a workshop for them!!! As with most of our workshops, it’s free and a drop in so just come hang out and make some zines with us. It’ll be really chill and fun. We’ll also be exhibiting all day Saturday and Sunday so come read some zines, buy some mystery bags, etc etc.

Dressed for Disaster - Sew Irregular

A SAD TRUE STORY by

ID: Three square risoprinted zines from . One red, one green and one blue. Each zine cover is divided into four panels which contain the words ‘A SAD TRUE STORY’. Inside pages show A Sad True Story Part 1. The left page depicts a heterosexual couple through the four seasons smiling happily. The right page shows the woman drunk texting the man, saying he deserves better than her. Some of her words are misspelt.

We’ll be making patches for our q***r community quilt to be part of an exhibition later this year! Come join us, make art, be around q***r folk and generally have a lovely time!

A potted Trans History - Rowan Frewin

Teddy & Two Legs - Claire O’Brien
Front cover: Teddy, a cartoon beige cockapoo with a red collar is looking down at a ladybird, whilst his owner ‘two legs’ has him on a lead. Two Legs wears light wash denim jeans, a red and grey coat and green wellington boots. Their face and torso are obscured. She Is Crossing The Sea- Tanya Keane:

ID: Black ink on white paper. The title is printed vertically alongside a black and white photograph of a figure shrouded in shiny dark material. We see the figure standing on an atmospheric looking beach. The inside spread shows a dark figure silhouetted against some curtains with light leaking through. A handwritten note on the next page reads: ‘I suppose the feeling that has stayed with me is the feeling of guilt and shame, and the stigma of having an abortion in Ireland is huge. You didn't tell anyone, you didn't speak about it. I could never tell my parents. It would kill my mother. Even now with everything in the media I still can't talk to them about it. There was all this shame I’ve only recently been able to open up about it.’

Fruit From The Artist's Bedroom - Rose Margaret London.

So, Which band is your boyfriend in? - Making the documentary- Zine #1

This zine is an accompaniment to the documentary of the same name- which, through a series of interviews, looks at gender in the UK's DIY and underground music scenes.

ID: Front cover is black on white paper, with a photograph of three women in a band, a bassist, a guitarist and a drummer. The sans serif font above them is all capitalised, and reads ‘So, which band is your boyfriend in?’. Under the women reads, ‘Making the Documentary, Zine #1’. The inside spread features photographs taken at Ladyfest Leeds and details the interviewer, Suzy Harrison’s, experience researching and finding content for her documentary. Lost 1920s Slang- Emily Vitty

Printed onto tracing paper to create a layered look, Lost 1920’s slang is a typography inspired zine by artist and graphic designer Emily Vitty. The front cover features a range of fonts, and reads ‘Lost 1920’s Slang, a dictionary of lost British slang words from 1920s flapper culture.’. All the lettering is in navy blue, bar the word ‘1920’s’ which is in red. The zine itself is printed on to translucent paper, which allows the reader to see the slang overlapping when the zine is being read.
The inside pages show one word- ankle. The opposite page is left blank, but because of the transparency, we can see the next word showing through.

Art Foundation 2020-2021 - Scarborough Sixth Form - ID: Front cover is marbled with swirling green, white and black creating the effect of a topographical map. The words ‘Art Foundation 2021-21’ are in white serif text, thinly outlined in black. Inside pages are the final project of Libbi Hartman, who designed an interior design installation based on ‘The Language of Flowers’. These include digital and lino printed designs on duvet covers, wallpaper and posters, all with a bright floral theme, and macrame wall hangings, lamps and plant hangers.
