Today is International Mens Day 2024, a time to celebrate and highlight Positive Male Role Models.
This yearโs theme encourages men to inspire others by demonstrating kindness, integrity, and responsibility. Itโs a reminder that being a role model isnโt about perfection, but about showing up, supporting others, and making a positive impact in your community. Letโs use this day to recognise the good in ourselves and the men around us, and to continue setting examples for future generations.
๐ฌ Who are the positive male role models in your life? Share your stories in the comments! ๐

Loving our Parish
Thinking about our diet and the planet
All agriculture takes an inevitable and necessary toll on our natural resources however some more than others and often in surprising ways. For example, the production of a 2-ounce (50g) serving of pasta needs 36 gallons of water (164 litres) while a 4-ounce (100g) hamburger takes 616 gallons (2800 litres)!
The Lancet, a medical research journal, together with EAT, a science-based global platform for food system transformation, was tasked with establishing the best strategy when it comes to our diets and reducing the effects of climate change. They discovered that global consumption of vegetables, fruits, nuts and legumes will have to double, and consumption of foods like red meat and added sugars will need to be reduced by 50%.
With meat eaters in the UK consuming almost double the world average, one way to help the planet is to reduce our consumption is to move to a diet which is more plant-based with smaller amounts of meat, fish and dairy) or go completely vegan.
Eating a plant-based diet is the most significant way an individual can combat climate change.
However, itโs a radical step to go completely vegan so try a flexible diet by avoiding intensive livestock farming, buy British, buy local and grass-fed meat.
Small steps like using lentils and mushrooms in a cottage pie instead of mince or using Olive oil or sunflower spreads instead of butter. Swapping diary yogurts and ice cream for soya-based are easy and readily available โ every little helps for your own and the planetโs health.
Rural matters here, to you and to all of us. ๐
Through the East Riding of Yorkshire Rural Partnership, we support connectivity and transport to keep our rural residents on the move.
In the last year over 60,000 journeys were made on the HART Community Bus Service in Holderness and the Eastern Wolds.

Bubwith Against Speeding (BAS) October 2024 Update by Andy Williams
Since my last Community Speed Watch (CSW) update in September we have continued to monitor vehicle speeds by the Surgery entrance. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel three sessions due to the rain but did manage one session on 17th October. We passed the vehicle registrations of 15 vehicles that we observed travelling at or above the enforcement threshold speed to Humber side Police. Of those reported, we observed only one was travelling at or above 40mph and that was an Iveco van at 46mph. There was just one repeat offender.
I repeat what I said last month, Be Speed Aware and do not accept โThatโs Slow Enoughโ when making the transition between the National Speed Limit, a 30/40mph area or indeed any other speed restriction. Get into the habit of checking your speed, something you may not be doing since you passed your driving test. I would hope that before you drive off youโve got into the habit of putting on your seat belt. Make checking your vehicle speed a habit and youโll be a much safer driver.
In Bubwith the ASW cameras continue to identify the most persistent offenders. The registered keepers of those vehicles will receive educational letters. Remember CSW and the ASW cameras are there for education. If your speed is noted above the enforcement threshold you will receive an educational letter from Humberside Police and should you do it for a third time, a traffic officer will hand deliver the letter and offer a few words of advice!
