Pick your own flowers on a Kent farm

26/09/2024

The rain keeps coming! The flowers are still looking great - dahlias and cosmos in full flow - but I’ve decided to close tomorrow so the track doesn’t get too muddy and churned up by cars. Saturday looks dry and sunny so I’ll be open as usual. Only a few days of pick your own left this season. Hope to see you! 🌸🌸

The September sun is keeping the dahlias flowering. The most beautiful time of the year 🌸

The weather might be cooling down - is it me or was it much more summer-like this time last year? - but the flower plot is still going great guns! For once my disorganisation has paid off and sowing late means I have some fab ammi majus, gyophila and cosmos to go with the dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers and snapdragons. Cafe au Lait dahlia has finally made her appearance along with some other truly magnificent varieties like Labryinth and my new obsession, the pom pom Copperboy. I’ll be open every Friday and Saturday 10-3pm from now until October 13 so come and pick a lovely bucketful before the season ends (and I start sowing for next year - never stops!). As a heads up, tomorrow I have a couple of bookings for parties so expect quite a few of these to be picked early doors meaning the plot may not quite be at peak fullness this weekend. You’ll still get some lovely flowers but if you need a large bucket might be safer to wait until next weekend when the plot’s had a chance to bounce back. Buds galore and they say it will be warmer next week so perhaps an Indian summer after all? Hope to see you 🌸🌸

Zinnias with Sprinkles grass. Love this little annual grass recommended to me by great for giving texture in tabletop bunches

Serious dahlia diva behaviour and a decadent echinacea

Cool whites to offset all the opulent dahlias, sunflowers and zinnias. So tempted to pick a bucket myself but will leave them for others at the weekend!

Great morning with digging the compost from the rotted down hay bales and spreading it on new beds for even more flowers next season! The plot is looking floriferous with gorgeous dahlias, sunflowers and zinnias and lots of cool ammi and gysophila. Come and pick a bucket this weekend! Friday and Saturday 10-3 🌸🌸

So hard to cut off dahlia flowers in their prime! But these have such short stems they’d be no good in a vase and removing them means the longer side buds can develop

Totally loving these zinnias Queen Red Lime. Sort of sun faded pink with lime - v vintage vibe. Also just out, delicate plumes of gysophila Covent Garden and frilly scabiosa Salmon Queen in full flow. Plenty of cosmos, dahlias and ammi as usual. Lots of flowers for Friday and Saturday pick your own 10-3pm- the field is looking sun-baked and beautiful 💚

Closing tomorrow since heavy rain forecast and the farm tracks will get slippery and muddy if there’s too much traffic. Open today and the sun is just coming out!! Hope to see you 🌸

Open today and tomorrow for pick your own - 10-3 - come and get some lovely flowers for the weekend! Dahlias and cosmos abundant, ammi looking good. Calendula and verbena in full flow. Achillea looking really pretty now I’ve protected it from the darned pheasants. Sweetpeas on their last hurrah. 🌸🌸 Sunflowers, gysophila, scabious on the cusp. Hope to see you!

Lovely to see my favourite dahlia Feline Yvonne in flower - I saved the tuber from last year. Lots didn’t make it through winter but nice to see this one did. It has a lovely brightness as though lit from within.

Ammi 💚 this one is visnaga - ammi majus on their way. Also obsessed with the black centres of these little white strawflowers. Like daisies splodged with a Sharpie.
