Drawn in 4B pencil only. Size 8” x 12”.
Two recent drawings I did for a client in America. They were an Amy Winehouse fan, can you tell?
I’ve not posted for a while, so I have a couple of drawings to share. This is my most recent one, drawn for a repeat customer. It was a lovely photo & a joy to draw!
An A4 size drawing, using 4B pencil.

My latest drawing was for a lovely couple. Thanks guys you were a pleasure to deal with.
Sorry for the low quality - I didn't have a scanner big enough for this drawing. It's at a bit of a random angle, but you get the idea! This is my most recent one.
June 25th, 2017 Something really handy I figured out one day (and I don't remember how or why I tried it) is the use of Blu-Tack for erasing fine marks. All you do is mould it into a point and then dab the fine...
Practice, practice, practice I am often asked how I learned to draw; its flattering, but of course there are thousands upon thousands of better artists out there, so some of those might be more help! But if anyone really does...
Hi all - unfortunately I am now booked up to and including August. Sorry, but Father's Day is now off the books.

Here is a little drawing I completed for someone.
The reference photo was taken in Antarctica in the 70's. Because it was an older photo, it wasn't too detailed, but I think that works quite well. It adds to the snowy feel!
As usual, this was drawn with my 4B Staedtler pencil on smooth WHSmith's A4 135gsm paper.
Practice, practice, practice! That's the main thing I'd recommend if you'd like to improve your drawing. I drew the first picture in 2002 and the second in 2012/13.
That sounds like a long time, but actually I was only drawing maybe 2 or 3 drawings like this each year in the intervening time. Nothing else, not even a doodle (well, maybe a doodle - work meetings are inherently dull).
Even that modest amount of work has yielded improved results. Try a drawing a week and see how it goes.
Drawing by eye It is important to practice and find the technique that works for you. A technique one person uses might not work for you, or it might work wonderfully, or it might even make things a whole lot more difficult. In a sense, advice is sometimes only appropriate for the person giving it.Having said...

This is a short video I took a while ago showing how I shade. I use a Staedtler 4B pencil for all dark and light tones. Just press harder for the dark areas.
You can use several grades of pencil, but personally I don't think its necessary. If you do that the darks can look too dark, I think.
Rest in peace, Carrie Fisher :-(
Hi all, just a reminder that I can no longer accept any orders for Christmas - the earliest I will be free now is the start of February 2017...
My latest commission was neither a pet, person or other creature - rather a well loved bike! Merry Christmas :-)
Natalie Portman. 4B Steadtler pencil drawing on WHSmiths paper, 8" x 12".
