Q&A on Ethical Savings with Pauline Crawford and Kevin Gillespie from Ecology Building Society.

At Ecology, we don’t invest in industries like fossil fuels, arms, or tobacco. Instead, your savings go towards projects that make a positive impact- like community-led housing and energy-efficient home renovations. Will you change the world this year? ✨ As the date of the #GeneralElection is finally confirmed, we've a favour to ask. 2024 is an exceptional year in terms of public democracy – more than 40% of the global population are going to the polls this year. In the UK, we've already had local and regional elections and on 4 July will get to choose a new Government. We’d never tell you which party or candidate to choose but we are asking you to turn out and use your #Vote in this year’s elections. All around us, there are people and businesses telling us what they think on social media, and campaigners and activists taking to the streets to demonstrate about rights, unfairness and conflict. We were founded as a building society to build a greener society and agitate for change – playing an active role in democracy is one way we all can do that. It’s understandable that the tone and language of some political arguments turns off many people and leads to cynicism about politicians’ motivations and integrity. But if you’re not registered to vote or choose not to cast your ballot, you’re not part of the exchange of views which can drive change. So remember, you can help to change your world armed just with a pencil and a slip of paper 📝, standing in a cubicle in your local church hall, school gym or wherever your local polling station may be. Of course, there are other ways to vote if you can’t make it in person – the Electoral Commission has lots of useful information about how to register and vote: https://ow.ly/qgx550RSgGx

Will you change the world this year? ✨ We’re asking one small thing as we remind everyone it’s #VoterRegistrationWeek this week (4-11 March). 2024 is an exceptional year in terms of public democracy – more than 40% of the global population will be going to the polls. In the UK, this includes local and regional elections and (almost certainly by December) a #GeneralElection to choose a new Government. We’d never tell you which party or candidate to choose but we are asking you to turn out and use your #Vote in this year’s elections. All around us, there are people and businesses telling us what they think on social media, and campaigners and activists taking to the streets to demonstrate about rights, unfairness and conflict. We were founded as a building society to build a greener society and agitate for change – playing an active role in democracy is one way we can all do that. So remember, you can help to change your world armed just with a pencil and a slip of paper 📝, standing in a cubicle in your local church hall, school gym or wherever your local polling station may be.
