Solihull Vikings
The Vikings are a recreational ice hockey team playing out of Solihull Ice Rink.
Cobras will travel to Solihull tomorrow for a challenge match with the vikings.
Coventry Tournament: 22nd – 23rd June
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
The weekend saw the Vikings head to Coventry over Saturday and Sunday to compete in their annual Rec Tournament. Going in as the previous 2 years winners there were high expectations for the Vikings to come out on top again making it 3 years on the bounce.
4 group games were played, Coventry Spitfires, Coventry Centurions, and Cleveland Comets x 2. The Vikings won all 4 games taking us top seed into the knockout stages.
A quarter final, semi final and the final on the Sunday ending 4 -1 in the Vikings favour and taking home the cup. All 7 games were won with a total of 28 goals going in. Nearly held a clean sheet for the whole weekend but unfortunately in the last 10 seconds in the final the Spitfires managed a long range shot.
Huge thank you to Chris Jenkins from the MK Hurricanes for helping us out between the posts for the weekend.

Solihull Vikings vs Coventry Spitfires 12 - 2
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
Sunday night the Vikings were at home again facing the Coventry Spitfires. Last time these 2 teams met was in the final of the Coventry tournament last summer which went in the Vikings favour. Unfortunately, the Coventry net minder pulled out last minuet which saw the Vikings our Micky Burke lend a helping hand and go in-between the posts for the opponents.
Lots of puck possession throughout the game, 1st period ending 1 – 0 Vikings. The 2nd & 3rd periods saw a plethora of goals & assists for all 9 forwards again.
Thank you to Coventry Spitfires for the game.

Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
The 2nd home game for the Vikings in the Summer Cup saw us go up against a strong Chiefs team.
Following on from 4 back-to-back losses, the Vikings were victorious and came away with our 1st win of 2024. It was fantastic to see all 9 forwards made it onto the points board and several of the defensemen.

Solihull Vikings vs Peterborough Dynamo 4 - 8
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
Saturday night saw the Vikings on the road again, this time it was the return cup match against Peterborough Dynamos. After failing to secure the home win a few weeks prior the Vikings were determined not to have a repeat this time around.
Vikings were quick off the mark once again going up 1 – 0 after 2.46. A very tight 1st period with end to end play. 3 -1 to the Dynamos at the end of the 1st after a very late in the period powerplay goal for the Dynamos. The 2nd period is what let the Vikings down, conceding 3 penalties, 4 goals, 2 of which were whilst shorthanded. Going into the 3rd the Vikings were 7 – 2 down. The final period saw a stronger performance from the Vikings with 2 more goals and only conceding 1 giving the end result of 4 – 8.
Well done to Jack Larose, great to see him putting up a goal in his 1st appearance as a Viking.

Solihull Vikings vs Tri-Base Lightning Hockey 6 – 9
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
On Saturday Vikings were on the road again in Cambridge. Vikings got off to a great start putting the 1st goal away in less than 2 minutes. This was quickly responded though by Tri-base moments later. Both teams put up a great fight which made for some great spectator hockey. Play was end to end with both team putting up goals one after the other.
1st period end 4 -3 to Tri-Base, 2nd period was 2 -2, one of goals conceded whilst shorthanded, the other in the final 5 seconds of the period. The final period of the game let the Vikings down. Lots of end-to-end play with only 2 lines proved fatal in the closing moments. With the Vikings down 6 – 7 and 10 mins left to go we were optimistic this could be ours still. With tired legs, it saw Tri-base holding strong until the very end. They managed 2 late goals with 1.55 and 1.18 seconds on the clock putting the final score to 6 – 9.
Great effort all round and thank you to our hosts for a great game. We are looking forward to the return match.

Solihull Vikings 2 - 10 Peterborough Dynamo
Sponsored by Volvo financial services
Vikings fall at home. Unfortunately took way too many penalties, conceding 7 PPGs, the bulk of which coming during a 5 minute power play during the 2nd period. Dynamos were very clinical on the power play so credit to them and a big thanks for travelling to us for the game.

Last 2 fixtures between the 2 of us have favoured the home team. Should be a good one.
Stick around after the barons for some good rec hockey.
Solihull Vikings vs Cobras Hockey 7 - 9
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
Vikings 2nd away game of the season takes us to North Wales to face off against the Cobras in Deeside, Flintshire. Looking to make amends for our defeat on the road against Peterborough the Vikings came well prepared ready to ice 3 lines.
The 1st 12 mins of the game let the Vikings down conceding consecutively to put us 5 – 0 in the very early stages of the game. From here it was an uphill battle against the Cobras. 1st period ending 5 – 1.
The 2nd period saw the Vikings wake up and take the game to the Cobras having a lot more possession in the offensive zone and putting up 24 shots on goal resulting in a 2-2 period. Score as of the end of the 2nd 7 – 3 to the Cobras.
After a much-needed ice cut the Vikings were determined not to have another away defeat so came out with speed. Penalties got the better of both teams in the 3rd resulting in very little 5-5 play. The Vikings had their best period of the game putting away 4 more goals. Nailing biting back and forth scoring at each end. The Vikings could never quite bridge the large gap created in those 1st 12 mins of the game.
Looking forward to a return match at Planet ice in the near future.

Solihull Viking vs Coventry Snipers 19-8
Sponsored by Volvo Financial Services
Off the back of a big defeat in Peterborough the Vikings were keen to make amends. 2nd home game of the season resulting in a big win against the Snipers.
Our last few meetings with the Snipers have always been very close, usually only a goal or 2 between us. The Vikings iced 3 strong lines which showed in the result.
The game didn’t start in our favor conceding first at only 1.03 mins. This lead for the Snipers was short lived as we responded at 1.21 mins. From there the possession and goals continued for the Vikings.
1st Period ended up 8-3 to the Vikings and after the 2nd 16 -3. The final period saw a change in direction with the Snipers bagging 5 unanswered goals, the final result 19-8 to the Vikings.
19 goals and 25 assists seeing all forward players contributing to the score board and the majority of the defense.
Great team effort all round.
