That being said please don’t hesitate to send us a message for all your taxi needs. It is always better to pre book this time of year as it is really busy and we can’t always have a taxi available straight away.

Please be aware that there are plenty of people doing illegal taxi trips that are not licensed to be a taxi driver and ultimately not insured should anything happen, so please always book through a office.

Another thing we see a increase in this time of year is drink drivers, please do not drink drive and put yourself or anyone else in danger this festive season and the possibility of ruining Christmas for families!

Metros suspended from South Shields to Bede to deal with the flooding from the downpour, the roads will be mayhem aswell, please book in advance for your taxis, in the mean time there’s plenty bars/restaurants along ocean road/king street you can take shelter in while it eases off and things go to normal!

GREAT NORTH RUN 🏃‍♀️ 🏃🏽‍♂️

This Sunday we see the return of the great north run, as the preparations are well underway on our beautiful coastline for the finish of the half marathon, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone participating good luck!!

We would also like to remind customers of the impact it will have on the taxi journeys both around the doors and out of town, with the extra traffic and road closures, we ask customers to book taxis and allow more time then usual for the journey especially if you have a train or a plane to catch! 🚆 ✈️

If you are unsure of what times to book taxis for then please don’t hesitate to drop me a message!

I personally will not be working when the roads are closed and the run is on, but if anyone needs to book taxis, bus or wheelchair vehicles then please don’t delay and book these up right away, as there will be limited availability on these, please call Dels taxis on 456 5656 and the booking clerk will be happy to assist, or message the page and I’ll get them booked in for you!

For those of you who want to get some extra steps into your day then you can walk up to DEL’S taxis and travel office which is located on Mile End road, right next to the metro station/Wetherspoons and a 5/10 minute walk from the finish line of the run! 🚖

The UK airspace and air traffic is running at a reduced level as there’s been a network wide failure.

Anyone who has bookings with us, especially returns coming back into England please don’t worry!

⚠️ The Central Motorway in Newcastle is hoped to be partially re-open by the end of this week as we and partners continue to deal with the aftermath of a city centre blaze.

Last Wednesday evening, emergency services were called to Carliol Square in Newcastle after fire engulfed a disused building.

A significant operation was led by Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service throughout the night to extinguish the blaze.

The fire damage has severely impacted the structural integrity of the building, and amid fears that debris could fall into the road and pose a potential threat to life, the northbound carriageway of the Central Motorway remains closed.

Initial checks to establish if anyone was inside have been completed, but the priority is now to make the building safe enough so that more detailed searches can be carried out to confirm this is not the case.

Once that happens and any outstanding safety concerns are allayed, it is anticipated the road can re-open.

It is currently hoped that one lane of the northbound carriageway will be partially re-opened by the weekend, but as things stand, it is likely to remain closed throughout this week. 🚨

We are treating the cause of the fire as suspected arson and eight people have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

🗣 Chief Inspector David Wheeler said: “First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone across the North East for their continued patience and cooperation.

“We know that the closure of the Central Motorway has had a significant impact on road users in recent days, with increased traffic and widespread disruption across the region.

“This is not a decision that was made lightly, and everyone’s aim is to get the road back open as soon as possible. It is hoped that there will be a partial re-opening by the weekend, but I must stress that these are only current estimates based on the information we have, and could change.

“Ultimately public safety is paramount, and with the building in its current condition, we cannot risk any debris falling onto the carriageway and hitting vehicles or drivers. This could cause potentially fatal injuries.

“A huge amount of work is ongoing at the site between various organisations, and we will update you as soon as possible once it is safe to reopen the road.

“In the meantime, diversions remain in place and we’d encourage everyone to research their journeys before setting off, allowing extra time to get to your destination.” 🤝

On the ongoing investigation into the fire, Ch Insp Wheeler added: “We are determined to establish the cause of the fire and since Thursday we have made a total of eight arrests.

“Those eight suspects have been released on police bail and enquiries are ongoing. We are committed to ensuring anyone found to be responsible is brought to justice. I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone for their ongoing support and cooperation."

🗣 A Newcastle City Council spokesperson said: “The building is in a dangerous condition so with the agreement of the police the council has asked a demolition contractor to carry out a partial demolition so the police can do their job safely.

“Once they have concluded their enquiries on site, the building will be handed over to the city council when we will progress its demolition. Once it is safe to do so, we will reopen the road.

“We appreciate this has caused some inconvenience to road users for a number of days now, however their safety remains our highest priority. The road will remain closed until it is safe to reopen it.

“We believe that motorists are now using alternative routes as traffic flows have increased over the Redheugh Bridge and through the Tyne Tunnel.

“We will continue to monitor traffic flows until the road is reopened. We don’t have a timescale for that yet, but we will act as quickly and as safely as possible to restore normality.”

The Central Motorway Northbound in Newcastle is set to remain closed into next week as police and partners continue to deal with the aftermath of a large city centre fire.

At about 6.45pm on Wednesday, emergency services received a report that a disused building in Carliol Square, Newcastle, was on fire.

Firefighters and blue-light colleagues worked tirelessly through the night to extinguish the blaze. Initial checks of the building were carried out to determine if anyone was inside and have so far proved negative.

However, with the fire having severely impacted the structural integrity of the building, the northbound carriage of the Central Motorway will remain closed ❌

🚓We are treating the cause of the fire as suspected arson at this time, and five people have been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

The fire has severely impacted the structural integrity of the building and so it remains unsafe to re-open the Central Motorway Northbound at present. We do anticipate the closure will continue into the middle of next week.

This is so the building can be made safe enough for us to conduct a more detailed search and be satisfied that no one is inside.

We would like to stress that this decision has not been taken lightly, but we cannot risk any debris falling onto the carriageway and causing catastrophic injuries to drivers.

Diversions remain in place, and we encourage everyone to research their journeys before setting off – allowing extra time to get to your destination.

We know this is unwelcome news and will have an impact on many people’s weekend plans and we thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

We are determined to establish exactly what happened and have been working around the clock with the support of our partners.
