Whilst oak is possibly the ideal choice, a quality softwood post and beam construction has just the same feel, quality look and would be serviceable for many many years to come. HARDWOOD vs. SOFTWOOD

When building bespoke, you have the option of hardwood (i.e. oak or beech) or softwood (i.e. cedar, Douglas fir or pine). Here are a few points worth noting when making your decision:

- As around 80% of all timber comes from softwood, this is the more cost effective option, being more readily available.
- Hardwood has the advantage of being more durable meaning the structures will last longer.
