Stable Block Build.
Customers using Mottaghan Reid are proving the benefits of a Post and Beam or Solid Timber Wall Construction. Its doesnt have to be Oak and it doesn't have to be expensive.

These types of construction make for a far more substantial building than the common 3x2 and 4x2 clad wall section.

This type of more durable and higher quality construction is for the more discerning owner who wants a quality the next generations want to enjoy.

Years ago our ancestors were building agricultural and stable buildings that can now be converted to homes. That can't be said of the panel (3x2 & 4x2) type builds. In 20 years the panel type will be worth no more than a chicken shack.

Timber Garage.
When considering a timber garage, traditionally for the more upmarket look and feel customers often choose oak. Whilst oak is possibly the ideal choice, a quality softwood post and beam construction has just the same feel, quality look and would be serviceable for many many years to come. In fact in Scandinavian countries, softwood was their oak. And buildings have stood for many generations.

Why Timber? Reason No.10

Durable and Easy To Maintain
Timber is a highly durable material. Many well-made wooden structures last for centuries. Timber is also easy and cheap to maintain compared to other materials, particularly if you prefer the natural changing colour over time.

https://www.mottaghanreid.com/contact-us

15/11/2022

Why Timber? Reason No.9

Quick Build Time
The speed of the build significantly quicker with timber products. A timber frame can be partly pre-cut, modulated, and built to precision, shortening the overall build time. Essentially the quicker build time clearly saves time and money for both domestic and commercial property owners.

14/11/2022

Why Timber? Reason No.8

No Limits With Design and Size
In virtually all applications where timber can be used, there is no limit on the design and size. Timber designs can offer up to 15m clean spans as well as having all the possibilities for all designs to suit architectural and functional requirements. Using timber as the main building material is the right choice with its endless design possibilities.

11/11/2022

Why Timber? Reason No.7

Easy to Work
Timber is versatile and can be used in a wide variety of ways. Being light, it is easy to install and can be worked with simple equipment. This reduces the energy needed for construction. Different species of tree produce timber with different properties from differing colours, textures and functional qualities.

Why Timber? Reason No.6

Energy Efficient Timber Homes
Wood helps to minimise energy consumption in several ways. Studies of the life cycle of the show that wood and timber frame houses significantly outperform ones built from other materials such as steel and concrete.

https://www.mottaghanreid.com/services

09/11/2022

Why Timber? Reason No.5

Great Insulation
Timber is a natural insulator and can help reduce energy needs when it is used in windows, doors and floors. For years, in the coldest countries, timber houses had no additional insulation, they just relied on thick timber walls to act as insulation. A timber building allows for more space for insulation than a brick building, and compared to brick or steel, wood itself also has naturally effective thermally insulating properties.
Wood's structure contains minute air pockets, which limit its ability to conduct heat and help to minimise the energy needed for heating and cooling our eco timber structures providing very energy efficient buildings.

Why Timber? Reason No.4

A Store For Carbon
There is wide spread concern about the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Timber is made from carbon drawn from the atmosphere. This carbon would otherwise be adding to the greenhouse effect. Using timber in buildings stores the carbon for as long as the building stands or the timber is used.

Make your next building project concern-free by getting it bespoke built in timber. Contact us via our website:
https://www.mottaghanreid.com/contact-us

07/11/2022

Why Timber? Reason No.3

Low In Production Energy
It takes very little energy to convert the wood in trees to the timber used in building. This means that the embodied energy in timber is low. In fact it is the lowest of almost all common building materials.

Want to save some energy yourself? Let us know your timber strucutre requirements, from foundations, build and installation, we'll cover it all.

Why Timber? Reason No.2

Ecology & Sustainability
People have been building with timber for thousands of years. As the majority of the main timber supplying countries re-grow more timber than is felled, timber is ecological and sustainable and a truly renewable building material. So long as we maintain planting trees to replace those harvested, timber will continue to be available for years to come.

Why Timber? Reason No.1

A Natural Material
Timber is one of the few natural building materials, which has a lot of many advantages as a product for building. Generally, timber is non-toxic, is safe to handle and touch. It also means that as timber ages, it does so naturally.
Feel you have done your best for your surroundings and planet and build with timber.

HARDWOOD vs. SOFTWOOD

When building bespoke, you have the option of hardwood (i.e. oak or beech) or softwood (i.e. cedar, Douglas fir or pine). Here are a few points worth noting when making your decision:

- As around 80% of all timber comes from softwood, this is the more cost effective option, being more readily available.
- Hardwood has the advantage of being more durable meaning the structures will last longer.
- Softwood is easier to work with in term of design and features, and takes paint and stain well.
