Are Your Feet Doing ‘Dry January’ ?

Here are some top tips to keeping your feet soft during the winter months…

1. Hydrating Sock Ritual: Before bed, apply a rich foot cream or natural oil, like coconut or almond oil, and slip on cozy socks. Wake up to silky, moisturised feet!

2. Gentle Exfoliation: Treat your feet to a gentle exfoliation once a week. Scrub away dry skin with a foot file or synthetic pumice if its safe to do so.

3. Warm Foot Soaks: Indulge in warm foot soaks with Epsom salt. It relaxes your feet, soothes dry skin, and leaves them feeling refreshed.

4. Stay Hydrated: Keep your body hydrated from the inside out. Drink plenty of water to ensure your skin stays moisturised, even in the winter chill.

5. Moisturise: We recommend using a high percentage ‘urea’ based creams as this is close to the skin’s natural moisturiser. The higher the percentage the more intense the effect will be. When applying moisturiser, avoid applying between toes as this can increase the risk of infections.

55 years ago TODAY, on Tuesday 9th January 1969, my lovely Mum, started her Nursing training at a hospital called Whipps Cross in East London, after arriving in England from Ireland as a young and pretty innocent 18 year old.

She went on to devote an incredible 53 years to the National institution that is the NHS; barely took a day off sick and was utterly devoted to her work until The Pandemic forced her to retire at the tender age of 72.

She reached the absolute top of the nursing career ladder, despite her own health problems, with a level of hands-on experience that only a small handful of clinicians can achieve, and was a well- respected and highly devoted professional; feared by some, but admired by all!

I'm SO proud of her. She was my inspiration for going into healthcare and she was my absolute heroine whilst growing up ( did I mention that she also brought up 3 kids by herself and gave us all a great role model when it comes to working hard!).

Her retirement during lockdown meant that she had no "retirement do" and the Chief Executive of the NHS Trust did not even acknowledge her 53 years of service or her retirement, despite me emailing him directly to remind him.

I wonder if we can show her some appreciation now, on the 55th anniversary of the start of her nursing journey. I know she would be chuffed.
