Did you know? Your eyes are 10 times more sensitive to UV than your skin! UV rays can cause serious eye damage, leading to conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration. Make sure you and your kids wear UV-protective sunglasses and stay in the shade during peak hours. Stay safe and see clearly! 🌞👓

Summer is here 🌞 Keep your little ones safe with these tips. Babies under 6 months should avoid direct sunlight; older babies should stay in the shade, especially from 11am-3pm. Use SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply often. Keep babies hydrated with more breastfeeds or cool boiled water if bottle-fed. For babies over 6 months, offer extra water in hot weather. To keep cool, use paddling pools, cool baths, and fans, and keep bedrooms cool with blinds or curtains. Enjoy the summer safely! 🌞👶

Edenholme BBQ – celebrating summer

On Saturday 20th July I was invited to join family and friends at Edenholme Care Home for their Summer BBQ. All decked out in their cowboy boots with lots of activities for the kids and adults. Burgers, ice cream, candy floss, tin can alley to bouncy castle, music and even a quiz that was super fun. I know who to call on if I ever need to get a quiz team together – well done everyone and a massive congratulations to all the staff at Edenholme for organising the event. I had a brilliant afternoon.

Such creative talent from the Edenholme Care Home staff and tenants.

Funding Success for KCHLN

Mearns Coastal Healthy Living Network (MCHLN), has been awarded £91,000 funding by Aberdeenshire Council. The money will help fund MCHLN's activities – many of MCHLN’s 500+ clients are living alone on lower incomes with poor mobility and a range of health conditions including dementia. The charity supports anyone over the age of 50 and living in their own homes in Kincardine and Mearns.

The funding means they’ll have ongoing access to affordable transport for appointments benefitting wellbeing (e.g. getting to/from hospital) and will be able to access assistance with shopping. In addition, MCHLN facilitates over 500 social groups, clubs, and classes per annum for more than 300 people, including drop-in sessions and short courses designed to act against digital exclusion and support older people to feel more digitally confident.

MCHLN has a network of over 90 volunteers who support the charity’s aim to tackle the effects of loneliness and isolation, empowering older people to maintain their physical and mental health, wellbeing & independence.

Whether you're in the UK or abroad, protecting your skin from the sun is essential. Remember, sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Here are some key tips:

Seek Shade: Especially between 11am and 3pm from March to October.

Cover Up: Wear suitable clothing, hats, and sunglasses.

Sunscreen: Use at least SPF 30 with 4-star UVA protection. Reapply every 2 hours and after swimming.

Children: Extra care is needed. Use SPF 30+ and keep them in the shade.

Avoid tanning, as there's no safe way to do it, and always protect your skin!

South ADP - Stonehaven Folk Festival

Thank you to Stonehaven District Men’s Shed for Hosting the Family Session Alcohol-Free Space Event at the Shed on Saturday 13th July. Host Sandy Mathers and about 28 musicians were all showcasing their amazing talents. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon of music and singing along with a fine piece, cup of tea/coffee.

This is an annual event that the Alcohol & Drug Partnership South Forum fund and they work in partnership with the shedders and wider community to offer a ‘free alcohol space’. Everyone is welcome to join the event. This year was even busier, the musicians all enjoyed the jamming session; we all enjoyed their singing and music.

Musicians come from all over the country to play and catch up with friends at the festival. The feedback was all positive and lovely to hear. This was a dog friendly event and some of the dogs joined in with their vocal skills!. Both Dawn and Freda attended to help the Men's Shed volunteers and provide support for the event.

As the summer sun shines bright, it's crucial to keep safety top of mind in the workplace. Here are some tips to ensure everyone stays healthy and productive:

1. Hydrate Often: Encourage employees to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and avoid heat-related illnesses.

2. Take Breaks: Schedule regular breaks in shaded or cool areas to prevent overheating. Provide a designated cool-down area if possible.

3. Wear Protective Gear: Ensure workers use sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen to protect their skin and eyes from harmful UV rays.

4. Dress Appropriately: Advise staff to wear lightweight, breathable clothing to stay cool and comfortable. Consider providing company-branded summer gear.

5. Monitor Weather Conditions: Keep an eye on the weather forecast and adjust outdoor work schedules accordingly to avoid peak heat times.

Let's work together to ensure a safe and productive summer at work.
