17/12/2023

Just like that and 2023 is complete.

We Have had some trying weather conditions to contend with, from torrential rain to ice and snow but it’s been great to see so many of you trying to get those games played by reversing fixtures or changing VENUES where possible.

So thank you to our managers and coaches and referees for working with the league and getting as many children playing football week in week out.

And thank you to all our spectators for bringing your children to the matches and standing on those cold sidelines every week cheering on the players. It’s not an easy job standing in the cold and rain but one your child won’t ever forget.

Games will recommence 6/7 January. We are aware fixtures are working hard to get these released but when reshuffles are made the system causes a lot of pitch clashes etc so it’s taking longer than it should for them to finalise the games, however they are imminent.

So on that note SDYFL would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.🎄

12/11/2023

Lest We forget

We have received already a few photos in from teams sharing their players paying their respects yesterday and today. Please send any in from oher the weekend and we will share them all here

The night before……..and it’s soon come round.

We can’t wait to see over 80 girls teams competing in our SDYFL Girls Tournament 2023 being held this weekend at Eagle Park.

Kewford have done an amazing job getting the pitches and venue ready. Car park arrangements look equally impressive with 2 lanes coming in, a prepaid lane and a cash/card payment lane.
This will then lead up to pitch 3 and 2 for car parking. There is also a single exit lane that will take people back off the ground a different way.

Additional portable toilets are on site and available by Pitch 2

Pitch 5 has been made available for families and teams to set up on a central base with gazebos(please ensue it’s pegged in place).

We have invited Miss Kicks to set up a stall there and a summer wouldn’t be complete without the Ice Cream van.

Prepaid car parking tickets are still available for both days through our website, https://www.kewfordeagles.co.uk/index.php/en/

Follow the link for the day you are attending, pre pay and either print your QR code off or have it available on your smartphone ready for scanning on arrival. Each car attending must purchase their own parking ticket, with its unique QR code on.

So all we now ask is pack that sun lotion, bring caps for your goalkeepers and let’s make this weekend one to remember.

Some photos taken of this weekend where all teams from SDYFL remembered Fred Walters (Dudley sports) with a one minutes silence

05/02/2023

Looking beautifully this morning at the dell for another central venue. U8’s this week. ⚽️

Photos from SDYFL's post 01/02/2023

We heard some very sad news late last night, Fred Walters of Dudley Sports Fc has sadly passed away.

Our football community has lost a wonderful gentleman who will be greatly missed.

Martin Saxon’s words below say it all.
He was ‘Dudley Sports’! And everyone who knew
Him saw the passion he had for his club and everyone around him.

So on behalf of everyone who’s a part of SDYFL Community we send our deepest condolences to Fred’s family and everyone at Dudley Sports.

Rest in Peace Fred

And that’s a wrap for 2022, albeit the cold snap resulted in 3/4th dec being our official last league weekend of played fixtures for this year.

We KO in the New year on 7th (girls) and 8th Jan 2023 boys/mixed).

As you can imagine there’s no rest for the wicked over Xmas for our committee as fixtures secretaries are busy sorting everything out after two weeks of postponements, and our referee secretaries rejig the referees on the amended games.

However, SDYFL would like to wish all our clubs, players,Managers, coaches, parents, carers,
referees an amazing Christmas and New year and we look forward to getting the children back on the grass.

Important notice

This weekend actions speak louder than words.
SDYFL are joining in with the first National Silent Support Weekend to promote Respect in Youth Football, and our teams and clubs will play an important part.

We’re encouraging spectators and coaches to show their support during the match through applause only. This will reduce pressure and confusion and give players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game.

So, all you have to do is not talk, you can applaud good play from both teams.
Let create an environment we all want to see our children thrive in.

Please remember this initiative is to also allow our referees to officiate our games in a safe environment. Last weekend (30/10) saw another high number of reports coming in for poor behaviour towards our referees and players.

We have taken the stance to PP those offending teams next fixtures whilst investigations take place.

We hope this ‘Silent weekend’ is a step in the right direction towards highlighting the importance of letting the game flow without abuse.

A digital link to a survey from the FA will be shared after the weekend for you to fill in to collect feedback for the FA and share your thoughts on how the weekend went.

Join us and play your part on Silent Support Weekend 5th and 6th November 2022.

Many thanks

Moment as we watch the funeral unfold.

We are all Forever in your debt.

May you rest in peace alongside your family and husband.

⚽️SEASON 2022/2023 Is about to kick off. ⚽️

It all starts this weekend with the Girls league kicking off tomorrow (17/9) and the Boys/MIxed League on Sunday (18/9).

Hope everyone is raring to go. New kits laid out, footballs inflated and our car boots ready to resemble something out of a mud fest.
But that’s what makes grassroots football what it is.
Reuniting kids and teams after a summer break back with their footy friends.

Please ensure you have your squad sheets at each game along with your hi-viz respect vest and nominated respect officer.
Let’s all get off to a great start.

Can we please also ask all our participating teams and their spectators that there should be a minute’s silence held before your game as a show of respect for the passing of Her Majesty.
All referees and managers have been informed also.

And last but not least just go and enjoy the weekend. Footballs back, so let’s keep our sidelines silent, respect your referees and let the kids play and enjoy their game.

For all our parents and carers and grandparents and anyone that comes along to support their children every weekend, the FA have a free ONLINE course in Safeguarding.

It takes 20 mins to do but in the scheme of things this time is going to be time well spent.

Three expectations and goals You will come away with are

✅ Increase your confidence regarding what safeguards should be in place at a child's club or football setting, and how to check this

✅ Increase your awareness of reporting concerns through recognised channels

✅ Increase your awareness of the behaviours that are expected in children’s football environments

Let’s kick start the season with everyone helping create a safe and fun environment for our kids.

Update to SDYFL fixtures 10th and 11th September 2022

As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, all league Fixtures have been cancelled for this weekend.

This has been confirmed by the Fa and affects all football events and leagues across the country.

Our thoughts are with the whole of the Royal Family during this sad time.

God bless you Ma’am

SDYFL

08/09/2022

Following the sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen, the SDYFL will be reviewing what action to take in respect of this weekends fixtures.
We expect that The FA or Birmingham County FA will give us some guidance and we will make a decision based on that guidance and we hope to make an announcement as soon as possible.

Thoughts go out to her family.
RIP Her Majesty The Queen ❤️❤️

Hi everyone,

Could all player registration officers/managers please ensure that full parent/carer details, address, including their telephone number, are added to your player's registration before submitting to the league.

You also need to click on the 'Use as Emergency Contact' button. If you haven't done so, your player registration will be rejected.
We are told that if you have already submitted a player, you can still tick the 'Emergency Contact' button and the registration will be updated.

Many thanks

Our Lionesses have only gone and made history.
Amazing performance and an amazing team from start to finish in this tournament.

The whole country was behind every player last night. We felt every pass, every chance at goal.

It’s coming home……it is now. ⚽️🥇🏆

Well done England.

An here’s why this win should now make a huge impact on Womens football especially grassroots with a timeline of how girls football has progressed through recent years which makes this win even more phenomenal :-

⚽️ 1966- England's men win World Cup 1966. No women could play organised footy at this point.
⚽️ 1971 - half century ban lifted by FA so women can now play organised footy.
⚽️ 1993 - Womens footy starts to get financial and logistical support from FA.
⚽️ 2009 - Central contracts awarded
⚽️ 2011 - Womens Central League (WSL)created
⚽️2018 - WSL became fully professional.

Schools also need to play their part in growing girls football too. Only 63% of schools provide equal access for girls through PE lessons.

So excited to see SDYFL girls football grow even more.
With an already hugely successful boys and mixed league, SDYFL were already at the forefront in supporting local clubs girls football including offering an age group at U7 which many leagues across the country don’t offer.

Well done again Lionesses.
You have done us proud

Can we please get sharing this.

We have several new U7’s Girls teams registered for 22/23 and looking forward to starting their footballing journey with our league, but we would love to see more at this age coming through.

There’s lots of Clubs with Wildcat centres around the area and not everyone knows we have an U7 age group within SDYFL girls.

Let’s get behind not only our England Lionesses but help lots of young girls get on board too.

Please note that due to the extreme weather forecast for Tuesday, the SDYFL AGM has been cancelled and will now take place at 7.30pm on THURSDAY 21st JULY at Dudley Sports Social Club.

15/07/2022

RED WEATHER WARNINGS HAVE BEEN ISSUED BY THE MET OFFICE

Although it’s preseason and outside of the leagues jurisdiction as to who plays when or with who etc, we still have a duty of care to our young players to ensure they are kept safe.

With every weather channel from here to the Sahara desert (yes it’s rare the weather folk all sing in unison) all warning of an extreme heat event it’s important to take heed.

Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July especially will see unprecedented heat in the UK which we know can be dangerous to not only the elderly but the youngest and fittest of people.

We are being advised the extreme heat will cause:-

☀️ Substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required

☀️High risk of failure of heat-sensitive systems and equipment, potentially leading to localised loss of power and other essential services, such as water or mobile phone services

☀️Delays on roads and road closures, along with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel, with significant welfare issues for those who experience even moderate delays

With all this In mind and dehydration, heat stroke and other heat related illnesses at a high risk we are suggesting any friendlies and training sessions you have planned Sunday through to Tuesday are cancelled.

This is in the best interests of your players, your spectators and you the managers and coaches.

Enjoy the weather but Stay safe and keep hydrated.

SDYFL

12/07/2022

England have produced one of the greatest major tournament performances of all time.

Record breaking and an all round amazing job done by each and every player on that field.
