Julian on BBC breakfast this morning talking cost living crisis for those with cancer…obviously had to wear a Dying Alive hoodie to support our cause too!🦁🧡

In 2016, Julian was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. It left him unable to work, and now the cost of living crisis is making life harder than ever.
“When I got first told about my diagnosis, my first concern wasn't me. It was the people that I'd leave behind.
"The cost of living crisis has left us living week by week. I’m homebound so my heating and electricity bills have been higher, due to the side effects of feeling cold from chemotherapy. I often have to make the difficult choice between food or petrol for the day. I’ve always liked to go out and enjoy my food, but now we have to budget. It was those little things that made me feel more normal allowing me to forget that I have cancer, but that’s now taken away from me.
“I had to let go of my dream job as a football coach due to my mobility issues caused by the tumour. I’ve worked my whole life and now I have to rely on benefits, which aren’t enough to cover the cost of my expenses. I'm left with no choice.
"From the beginning and throughout, if I need help or advice Macmillan helped me with benefits. This was all new to me and all I had to focus on was my chemo and radiotherapy. Everything else got done by Macmillan.”
The cost of living crisis is sending people with cancer across the UK into a downward spiral. Record numbers of people are turning to us for financial help, telling us they are worried about the future and already facing an impossible choice between getting to hospital appointments or paying for food and energy bills.

1st photo is today last year..post 4 surgeries, sepsis & meningitis, high dose of steroids & near enough wheelchair bound.
2nd photo is a couple of weeks ago! The improvement is just INCREDIBLE, physically, emotionally & medically!
We also had the news yesterday that most recent mri scan shows tumour is stable, shrinkage in an area & oedema has reduced.

Onto Kings Hospital..
•MRI Scan 🩻
We then bumped into 2 student nurses who helped look after Julian when he was on the ward last year really unwell, was so lovely to see them, & for them to see Julian & how well he is now, last time they saw him he was bed bound, incredibly swollen from steroids & hooked up to drains & machines!❤️
Hopefully get MRI scan results next week🤞🏼 (scaniexty for a week now!), & we’re back to Guys hospital next Friday for an echocardiogram too, as Julian got his current chemo on compassionate grounds there’s extra tests such as that he has to have to check fit for chemo

What a difference a year makes!!
This exact day last year Julian was 4weeks into his hospital stay (little did we know it would last 5months!). He had 4 surgeries alone in that time, never mind the 3 since 2016! He had sepsis, meningitis, brain hemorrhage, pneumonia, no vision at all for 24hours, CSF leakage..& what felt like everything other thing that could possibly happen! It did even cross our mind he may not come home.
Fast forward a year & look at him today!😍 I wish we had a button last year to show us where we’d be now! Beyond proud & grateful🫶🏻
