It is with a heavy heart that directors at the beloved arts venue CICCIC in Taunton, are warning it could face closure within 12 months due to a considerable funding gap.
In the 12 years that CICCIC (a not-for-profit org) has been offering community connections through arts and culture, it has never been funded for its core activities. We’ve been through austerity cuts, nearly 2 years of closure during the pandemic, yet have continued to survive by dedicating our personal finances, which are now exhausted, and we need financial support if we are to continue the work we do at CICCIC, at Arts Hub (Flook House) and in the community.

Not sure it’s totally finished yet so will let it simmer..
Just framed this recent painting which I titled, ‘Quilted lands’.
I’m happy with the light grey frame, feel it sets off the colours and completed the look 👀
I’ll be taking this amongst others to in Somerset next month for a group show which I’m looking forward to being part of. More details to follow closer to the time.

‘Gliding with everything’

This is a painting that I have had lying around for quite some time and finally got stuck into it.
I can’t seem to avoid greens at the moment! It’s a composition that has evolved and loosely inspired by the coastline of Dorset.
The changing seasons has always motivated my painting and given me that little lift.
‘Quilted lands’
50x40cm
Acrylic paint, filler and collage.
Inspired by a trip to Hope Cove in Devon last summer, rolling hills meet the sea, a beautiful spot to draw and paint. Looking forward to visiting again soon this year.

Continuing the theme of Green and orange, another abstract landscape. Inspired by the hills in Somerset and looking out towards the Bristol Channel.
I’m enjoying the freedom of working like this and the not knowing how it’s going to end up.
Latest painting, more of an abstract response to the landscape. I’m currently loving these colour combos. 💚 🧡
This painting amongst others are forming part of a new collection which will be heading to a gallery in Guildford this July, more details on that closer to the time.

‘Land and sea’
Acrylic paint, filler, fabric, oil,
pastels and spray paint.
I finally am settled with this painting. Lost count how many paintings are in this, 4 maybe 5.
I think often, it’s overwhelming to capture natures beauty..
This quote below is perfect…
“The moving air and the sea’s blue light, with points of diamond, and the gorse incandescent beyond dark trees - countless rocks ragged or round and of every colour - birds resting or flying, and the sense of a multitude of creatures living out their minute lives ... All this is just part of life, and I want desperately to express it - not just what I see but what I feel about it and beyond it.”
John Wells to 1945
My painting ‘Winter Solstice’ will be making an appearance Bristol tomorrow.
I’ll be looking after the gallery 11-2pm so pop in if you are passing! I’ll also be adding lots of new gicleee prints which will be in the browsers!
Revisiting a previous painting based on the beautiful Quantocks of Somerset.
It needed more refinement and a some colour attention!
A large canvas I’ve been chipping away at.. I don’t think it’s complete just yet so a few more tweaks needed.
It’s a bit of a mash up of my favourite coves and beaches. I’ve taken simple shapes and attempted to fit them together to create some kind of harmony!
Second painting complete this year.
Based on a beautiful photograph taken by of a walk high up on Exmoor of the East Lyn river. The composition changed drastically over the few sessions leading much more into abstraction but nodding to the colours and shapes found in the image.
I’ve been delving back into the works of Graham Sutherland again recently who has inspired me throughout the years and has certainly had an impact on this.
plans on getting it framed with a floating frame, it should complete it nicely 👌🏻
First ‘new’ painting of 2024. Inspired by some lovely adventures last year at Kingsands and Cawsands in Cornwall, probably my favourite place!
Finally got back to the studio even though I wasn’t overly excited.
Kind of drifted away from painting recently as I find this time of the year a bit weird! Hoping to find the spark again soon.
Anyway it did feel good to create, to let go and loose myself again amongst the endless possibilities of abstraction. Can’t wait to get back to the sea 🌊 and feel the sun.
Thank you to everyone who follows me and supports me on this journey. Last year was a good year creatively so off we go again 🚀
Peace and love 🩵
Oil, pigment and cold wax on gesso card.
I’ve produced a few of these thanks to and her knowledge on using oil and cold wax.
It’s opened up another avenue for my work. The ability to layer, erase, mark make and print generate interesting outcomes.
I’ll be running 20 Giclee prints of this one at A4 and A3, framed using ivory white card with mount.
Original also available.
Dm me if you’re interested.
‘Beautiful place’
Filler, acrylic paint, fabric, oil pastels and compressed charcoal.
Had loads of fun on this, pretty big 60x60cm canvas so loads of experimenting and layering. Number three in my new series of landscapes.
Painting was clicking more today, had fun working over this old painting, added lots of filler and fabric and went for it. Left a few areas from the previous painting which I thought balanced the colours well. The bright red bit!
Inspired by some of the vivid colours around at the moment.
45x55cm
Acrylic, fabric, filler, spray paint, oil pastels and collage.
‘A world so new’
Had some fun with filler and fabric with this recent painting.
Channelling the ‘Art Informal’ movement, a French term describing approaches to abstract painting in the 1940s and 1950s which had in common an improvisatory and highly gestural technique combining collage!
Anyway, it was fun and I’m happy with the outcome. Very different approach for me but always good to push yourself.
Also a very different palette 🟢
