It was a privilege to stand as The Labour Party candidate in Tiverton and Minehead.
It has been a fantastic result for Labour across the country. It's brilliant to see so many Labour South West candidates elected across the region. ๐
Congratulations to Rachel Gilmour - Tiverton & Minehead on her victory. I wish her all the best as the new Member of Parliament for the area.
Thank you to everyone who supported me, whether it was sending a supportive email, delivering leaflets or knocking on the doors. I am truly humbled that thousands of people voted for me. ๐ณ๏ธ
I will continue to stand up for the community in which I call home. I am convinced that Labour values speak to all areas of the country, including our own. ๐น

Great support for Labour on the doorsteps today, just 5 days away from polling day!
It was good to stop by West Somerset Advice last week to find out more about their important work.
It is an independent charity that provides free and confidential advice to people affected by problems such as employment, housing, debt, employment and welfare.
They provide such an important service to people seeking information and support in challenging circumstances.
Pleased to support this.

PRESS RELEASE ๐
LABOURโS JONATHAN BARTER GOES BACK TO SCHOOL:
Labourโs candidate for Tiverton and Minehead, Jonathan Barter, paid a visit to Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe to discuss the state of education in the area with the Headteacher, Mr Eddy.
Commenting on his visit, Jonathan said:
โI thoroughly enjoyed being back at Kingsmead. Twenty years ago, I began my secondary school journey at Kingsmead. It was a real privilege to attend as the Labour Party candidate for the area I grew up in. I was lucky enough to be educated under a Labour government. I owe a huge debt to my experiences at Kingsmead that gave me so many opportunities.โ
โAs a secondary school teacher myself, I am passionate about the role education can play in in providing opportunity and achieving social justice.โ
โI was particularly impressed by Kingsmeadโs farm school. The Old Railway Farm provision is hugely valuable, particularly for young people in rural areas such as Wiveliscombe.โ
โI am excited about how breaking down the barriers to opportunity is central to Labourโs manifesto for change. Labour is determined to ensure that every child is prepared for the future. Schools are facing unprecedented challenges. Labourโs pledge to recruit 6,500 new teachers, reform Ofsted and create a curriculum where young people are ready for work and life will have a massive impact on schools just like Kingsmead.โ
โI would like to thank Mr Eddy and the team at Kingsmead for their time and for being so welcoming.โ
Mr Eddy added:
โOver the last few months, I have met with representatives from the three major parties. As an ex-student, Jonathan enjoyed looking around Kingsmead School. He showed genuine interest and was refreshingly understanding of the challenges faced by those of us working in education, because he is also employed in a secondary school. It is crucial that our next government prioritises the essential need to invest in education and to tackle the serous shortfall in teachers entering the profession.โ
Stogursey! You were on point last night... ๐๐น
I enjoyed my visit to the Watchet charity street fair this weekend.
Great to see the fantastic work that charities and community organisations are doing across the area.
Watchet Conservation Society were highlighting the potential opportunities to develop the Wansborough Mill site. Labour's manifesto commits to take a brownfield first approach in developing new housing by prioritising the development of previously used land wherever possible. ๐๏ธ
I found out more about PROMISEworks, a local charity making a difference in Somerset by offering mentoring services to disadvantaged children and young people in West Somerset. ๐ง๐ฆ
I also had a great conversation with Base for Life Watchet about the housing challenges in West Somerset. ๐
Enjoyed being part of this ๐
Four out of five General Election candidates put views in Langford Budville hustings
It was my third and final hustings for this election last night in Langford Budville.
I've been immensely proud to champion Labour's manifesto for a better Britain and have enjoyed debating with the other candidates on how best to deliver the change this country so desperately needs. ๐น
Oh, and thanks to Bertie for rocking the Labour rosette! ๐ถ
Had a good chat with Somerset Bus Partnership on how we can secure our precious rural bus routes.
Labour's plans to allow communities to take back control of their local bus services and supporting public ownership can help secure reliable, affordable and regular buses in our area. ๐
Jonathan Barter for Tiverton & Minehead (Labour parliamentary candidate), just dropped by our bus stall at Watchetโs Street Fair.

Yesterday I stopped in Wivey to sign the petition Day Lewis Pharmacy Wiveliscombe which helps thousands of local people every month. We are seeing too many disappearing from our towns and villages.
Labour have committed to further expand the role of community pharmacies as part of their strategy to tackle NHS waiting lists and build a health service fit for the future. ๐น
If you are in the Square over the next week, make sure you drop in and add your signature! ๐
Thoroughly enjoyed being on stage yesterday at Tiverton Community Arts Theatre taking questions from voters in Mid Devon.
A particular well done to the brilliant student ambassadors from Tiverton High School for their question on the desperate need for new school buildings. ๐ซ

The cost of living is perhaps the main thing I hear about in the doorsteps.
Labour has a plan to get to grips with this for families across our country. ๐
Keir Starmer: I have a plan to make you richer Working people are already paying too much in tax under the Tories.
It was a pleasure meeting voters in Wivey this weekend.
Fantastic to meet so many people who are backing Labour on 4 July. ๐ณ๏ธ ๐น

First hustings in the bag - and it was in my home village! โ
Good questions on the NHS, education, planning and Labour's first steps for government. ๐น

Cost of living and the NHS a big priority for voters here as well as local concerns regarding the Greenway landfill plans.
Small businesses are the beating heart of the British economy particularly in our small towns in Devon and Somerset.
Labour's plan to replace the current business rates system will reduce the burden on our high streets which are so vital for our communities. ๐น
