Makenna here- now with a name like that, I’ve had a lifetime of unpersonalised gifts. Walking into gift stores as a kid, I could never just pick up my name on a keyring, and honestly, I was quite jealous of the people that could. Well, no more.

Let’s talk ‘scent throw’. What does it mean? Scent throw refers to how far your scented candle
will ‘spread’- so if you’ve lit a candle in your living room, you want to know that you’re smelling
that candle scent from all the way across the room.

Happy Earth day! Here at LKC we love our planet, so much so, that it’s the main driving force behind why we do what we do!

Our founder Karen didn’t like the waste that comes with traditional candles- the glass containers wind up in landfill and ultimately creates a lot of waste. Seeing the issue, she developed the brilliant concept of a refillable candle- and Little Karma Co. was born!

This snowballed into our packaging being developed with the most eco friendly options that we could find, and has resulted in our brand new mycelium based inserts which are completely compostable within 45 days! This means when you order your Little Karma Co. Gift sets, your recipient can tear up & plant the candle inserts, wait 45 days, & then plant their seeded dust covers to grow an assortment of wildflowers in their newly nourished soil. If that’s not giving back to the Earth, then we don’t know what is.

I used to save my candles for ‘best’. That’s right, I had countless candles sat on my shelves waiting for either a dinner party, guests or a bath to ‘be able’ to use them.

Well, no more! Once I tried lighting a candle alongside my breakfast, there was no going back. In the words of , ‘If you’re waiting for a good day, then today’s the day!’

Not only does it slow down my morning and make me appreciate this little pocket of time more, but it also makes every morning feel that little more special.

If you need it, we’re giving you full permission to burn your candles all day everyday (with your supervision... of course!) and to enjoy them all year round!

It’s official- Spring is here! And I’m so ready for the blossom on the trees, the flowers popping up and (dare we say it), maybe even some sunshine?

We think it’s the perfect opportunity to change up your candle scents for the lighter & fresher tones to compliment our transition into Spring time. It’s that time of year where it feels like tomorrow will be the 90th ‘grey day’ we’ve seen this year... who else is ready for some sun? Honestly, jokes aside, it can begin to feel a little bit stagnant, so we’ve got some easy ways to freshen up the feeling of your home, and to give it a little spruce before we finally move into Spring!

As we’re moving into spring, we’re really taking the time to fully embrace the slightly dull/darker mornings because they’ll soon be gone!

Whilst we adore the sunshine, there’s definitely something to be said about the slower pace that winter encourages us to us in our lives. As a candle lover, I love nothing more than curling up with a blanket, a candle and having some ‘Me time’- a perfect remedy for bad weather days!

‘Be nice to your Mum, it’s her first time living life too’. This was something I heard on social media that really stuck with me.

So often, Mum’s carry the weight of taking on so many roles in their lives and we forget to be able to actually check in with them and see if we can support them in any way.

As I’m getting older, I’m appreciating the relationship I have with the women in my life more and more, and when I look at my Mum now, I see some of my greatest traits mirrored back to me- something I’m incredibly grateful for.

So this is just a reminder for all of us to slow down this Mother’s day and really appreciate the motherly figures we have in our lives- see the person, and see how you can extend care and kindness to them.

Things in my candle photography set up that just make sense:

Ring light- balanced & focussed light, very flexible & a massive amount of colour options,
Lighter- For candles- rechargeable so I create less plastic waste
C-Stand- A handy pair of hands for everything from holding a camera to hanging props on
Blackout blinds- for consistent light
Candles- they have to burn to the edge before I can blow them out so they don’t tunnel (candle care tip for you all there)
Flowers- The greatest prop there is- versatile & adds life into your images
Prop table- this becomes a mess but allows me to see everything I have & prep/partly organise my shoots
Grumpy dog- She’s a dream, but had to be shut away for a nap because she kept eating my prop flowers- she wasn’t too thrilled!
