After being away for two weeks, I am back and ready to get into the dōjō to train again.

I felt that this quote really emphasised the feelings I have been having recently that we need to persevere in our training. You don't get good overnight, and you don't master skills after a few sessions. The skills taught by the Bujinkan organisation are meant to be trained, practiced, and explored regularly.

The only way you get better at anything is repitition.

So why not come along and start working on some skills?

We train every Wednesday 20:00 - 21:30 in Torquay.

Your first session is always free, so why not just come along and try something new out?

The Bujinkan is not a sport to score points or win medals. Instead it is a vehicle to learn to move naturally and rediscover the nature of human beings.

Budō Taijutsu is the gateway to all the learning within the Bujinkan. From Kenjutsu (sword skills) to Sōjutsu (spear skills) to the variety of unarmed skills which all teach us to handle a multitude of scenarios.

The term Gendai Budō is used to refer to modern martial arts which came about or were codified post the Edo Jidai (1603 - 1868 AD).

Many martial arts these days seem to have picked between one of three paths (sport with added safety rules, slow movements with little connection to the reason for the movements, or focus on the "self defence" aspects).

14/08/2024

A quote you often hear in the self-defense sphere, which we can all attest to in any stressful situation.

At the Kaeru Dōjō we study through Kata (set movements) to teach our body how to move so that after repitition the movement becomes natural.

Whether using empty hands or weapons, the Kata teach us building blocks to move correctly.

So come along and train. Plus we're a friendly bunch.

Get moving. Get learning. Get better.

Today is the first Wednesday of the month, and that means one thing. Basics.

Fancy being a ninja? Come learn some kihon (fundamental) skills of the art of Ninjutsu. Join a friendly group training in the traditional martial arts of Japan.

Training every Wednesday night in Barton Torquay. Your first lesson is free.

31/07/2024

Not only do we learn unarmed fighting techniques (Taijutsu), but we also regularly work on weapon based skills (Bukijutsu).

This month's weapon of choice (as chosen by one of our members) is the Japanese sword (Kenjutsu).

So why not come along and learn with us tonight?

Worried you don't have the experience, fitness, or equipment? Don't worry we can help with those, building you up from absolute basics. The important thing is to constantly be learning and improving.

We train every Wednesday 20:00 - 21:30 in Torquay.

Wednesdays weekly post.

Last week we worked on skills needed to effectively throw someone.

This week we are going to look at one of the nine schools Kotō Ryū. The name translates to Tiger Knocking Down School. So we are going to work on some of the techniques from the beginner level, the focus of which is how to deal with someone who has gotten too close for comfort.

Why not come and learn some ancient wisdom that can help your modern living?

Remember as always your first session is free, why not try something out? You never know you might enjoy yourself. 😉

Happy Wednesday all.

Last week we worked on some kihon (fundamental) skills from our syllabus, this week we will be working on more of the same: working through our syllabus on some kihon skills.

Come and join us in Torquay for some traditional martial arts based on the skills passed down from ninjas and samurai.

Please share this post with anyone who would be interested in learning a traditional martial art, making new friends, or even just getting out of the house for a couple of hours.

Wednesday again. Time to get in the dōjō and train. This week we will be looking through and training from the syllabus to learn and practice some more fundamental skills which make up the art.

Recently, a website has been created for the dōjō. Currently it is super basic for now. But like the dōjō this will evolve. Any suggestions/feedback welcome. Check it out at www.bujinkankaeru.com
