POV: It’s Monday and the only day of the week when the playroom will look anywhere near as neat as this. Playrooms don’t have to be all bright colours and Swedish storage boxes. By adding lots of little design details throughout the room we can keep this space in line with the rest of your house. So if you’d like a semblance of order and that all-important injection of style, do get in touch.

This lovely open plan living/dining room lacks natural light. Our instinct is to use neutral and white tones to lighten up a room but, actually, this is a great example of how adding bespoke cabinetry and painting it a dark colour can really create a focal point. Here, the bookcase not only provided storage which ‘tidied up’ the room, but it also gave us the chance to add additional lighting to illuminate the whole room year-round, making it a really cosy space. Elsewhere in the room, the sofas were much loved by the family so we simply added plenty of pattern and texture with cushions galore. Additionally, a new velvet footstool and full length curtains in a lovely textured linen look-alike fabric with blue border help tie the room together. It just goes to show that being bold with colours can truly pay off.

Take a tour with me around this dual-aspect drawing room in Sevenoaks. The brief: a formal drawing room for entertaining but without the stuffiness. The end result: We opted for @‌farrowandball Pigeon as the backdrop on both walls and the bespoke cabinetry. The floor-length curtains with a classic rambling floral (Windrush by @LewisandWood) gave us a springboard palette for the remainder of the room’s soft furnishings. We incorporated plenty of the client’s favourite pink and red colours to lift the space and dial back the formality, including on the deep red velvet sofa, buttoned footstool and sumptuous cushions. Interiors guilt If you live in a house where the interiors are in good ‘nick’ there can be a tendency to feel ‘interiors guilt’- to think that redecorating is a wasteful - particularly when everything is fine, but perhaps it’s just your taste that has changed or you want to incorporate some of the new interiors trends in your home. I’m 100% guilty of this one myself! But, the way we live in our homes does change, as does our taste and style. Living in a home that aligns with your personality is so important to feel connected to your space, so investing in an update even if you don't ‘need’ to can be more important than it appears if you judge by appearances alone.
