Watercolour portraits of houses and businesses
Wahoo it’s February AT LAST!! 🥳 About time eh?!
A very belated happy new year to everyone, hope 2024 is treating you all well so far. I’d like to say “new year, new me” but for me January involved jet lag (and therefore a rather demanding and sleep-averse toddler that still thinks 3am is a fun time to get up for the day…5 weeks later 🫠), a flurry of urgent commissions, a bout of the lurgy, solo-parenting while Daddy works abroad, last minute tax returns and multiple birthdays (including mine, and no-one likes being a winter baby). So a dry Jan has most definitely been off the cards and “new me” kicks in soonish 🍷🤪…but January blues aside, I’m so excited for what 2024 brings, and am so grateful to every one of you that’s purchased a print and has booked a slot in my commissions waiting list - now fully booked until the Summer so a very busy bee! 😅
Bring it on 2024, I’m comin atcha 👊🏼🔥💃🏻
📸 a little photo dump of our incredible American Xmas (NY, Philadelphia & Delaware), as I’ve finally got around to looking through the 365798000 photos we took. (Saving every penny to go back to New York as LOVED it).
Normal infrequent painting related content to resume!

So there’s been a few more of you following along recently, and it’s been a while since I showed my face on here, so while I’m actually wearing make up today I thought I’d do a little updated cringe post about me…
Hi, I’m Emma 👋🏼 Mummy to 19 month old Olive, and when she’s asleep, Illustrator of your lovely homes and businesses.
I started experimenting with watercolour for the first time in 2020 - I painted my old house during lockdown and was instantly hooked! When Olive came along, I had to make the difficult decision to leave London and my 10 year career in jewellery design, and move back home to Wi******er (UK childcare costs, what the hell?!). Since then, slowly but surely I’ve been able to build this hobby into something almost resembling a business.
The juggle between being a “stay-at-home Mum” and finding the energy and time required to be a freelance artist is pretty tough at times, but I feel so incredibly grateful to be able to stay creative whilst soaking up these early years with Olive. So to all you lovely lot who buy my work, share my posts, encourage me to keep going with your touching comments, or simply stop-by to have a look, thank you. It literally helps me put food on the table and means the absolute world to me.❤️
(Also a big special shout out to my amazing partner who is my personal photographer, website editor, mood leveller, rent pay-er, super Daddy and all-round mega babe 😘)

December 2022 vs. December 2021…what a difference a year makes! ✨
Needless to say I’ve been MIA from social media for quite some time 😅 my new year’s resolution is to finally get around to sharing evidence of the commissions I had the joy of working on throughout pregnancy (🙈 seriously where did that year go?!) and since, whilst navigating the rollercoaster of motherhood and squeezing creative time into tiny pockets of infrequent nap time 😵💫
A huge thank you to this lovely community that has stayed in touch despite my rubbishness, and to my wonderful clients who have so patiently waited for me to get my arse back into gear! Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas - here’s to a productive, but most importantly happy year ahead ❤️ # #
Introducing…Olive Wren McMenemy 💗 born 22.03.22 at 10:51pm, weighing 7lbs 13oz.
6 days late and a 35 hour labour ending in emergency C-section by general anaesthetic, but our little lady got here in the end! 2 weeks old already, there have been lots of explosive nappies, sleepless nights and sore ni***es, but the three of us are all doing very well, settling in at home and enjoying all the cuddles # # #
Loved painting ‘s portrait; a memento of their first home together and of all their hard graft making it enviably gorgeous ❤️
Quick triv, the Victorian Warner houses of E17 are distinctive in design as they were built to be purpose-built flats, so two front doors!
🤓🏠
Our latest creation ✨
…and the biggest excuse I have for never posting on here lately! Eagerly awaiting the arrival of our little girl in March 💗 (*hint hint* to anyone who would like to get on my commissions waiting list for the new year, I have a very limited number of slots left before I’ll be nesting and figuring out how to look after a tiny human 😬🤯)
Lina Stores Tokyo from pencil to ink, to finished watercolour ✏️ 🖋 🎨
Lina Stores Lina Stores Japan
🎶 by Michael Mcmenemy
Delighted to finally reveal the newest addition to my Lina Stores series of paintings, commissioned to mark the very exciting grand opening of Lina Stores Japan in Tokyo! 🇯🇵 Loved working on this as it was a completely different style of building to my usual..and those hanging plants..😍🌿 Now to plan how and when I visit in real life!
P.S. Realise I’ve completely and utterly neglected social media lately, but I’ve been silently squirrelling away, working on lots of very lovely commissions which I look forward to sharing soon!
Cor blimey, that was a lot of bricks 😳😅
A recent A3 commission for some close friends of mine, capturing their home in Greenwich (and their fur babies in the top windows 🐈🐈⬛). I can personally vouch that the panoramic views from their balcony are incredible, might have to take my sketch book next time I visit!
Oh I do love a Victorian terraced house💛
Cheeky time lapse to follow shortly…
Here’s a little time lapse of yesterday’s post, from ink to finished piece. Taken over a week of consecutive sunrise painting sessions, before starting “real work” during lockdown...my absolute favourite time of day to paint...the bf is snoring away, the birds are waking up, and it’s just me, my coffee and my paints 🧘🏻♀️🌞✌🏼
🎶 by my very talented (snoring) in-house composer 😏 Michael Mcmenemy
I know where I’d rather be on this drizzly Sunday - catching some rays by that pool and admiring this gorgeous garden 😍🌷
I loved painting this one, a gift for a very special Mum’s big birthday 💖
Been a bit quiet on here recently, balancing full time work with some very lovely top secret commissions that I can’t wait to share soon...watch this space!
Close ups of my recent ink and watercolour painting of The Thomas Cubitt 🔍
When Alex commissioned me to paint him enjoying a pint at his favourite pub The Thomas Cubitt, I couldn’t believe my luck! What a gorgeous building, on arguably the prettiest street in London, thank you Alex!
🌸🍻🪴
Here are some close ups of all the little details to my Greens painting 👀
I’ve sat in those chairs hundreds of times, but it wasn’t until I was painting this that I noticed just how beautiful the stained glass windows are, and the little nod to the former French restaurant in the doorway 💚 Painting has definitely opened my eyes to the world.
My favourite bar in Wi******er, Greens 💚 Painted on my birthday back in January, when all I wanted was an espresso martini here with my pals 🍸 so painting it was the next best thing! This place holds so many memories for me (13 years of them!) so happy to have this up on my wall reminding me of good times. Counting down the days until we can hop on a train home!
Maggie the cat, Poppy the dog, and three fiiine looking aerials (I sure do love a TV aerial so will be sad when the world is completely digital!)⚡️
P.S. how cute are the family’s wellies all lined up?!
💛💙💗💚
A recent commission for a special 40th birthday gift 💖 Really enjoyed adding all the personal little details to this one (especially that cheeky woofer under the gate!)
Who else has spent 90% of their free time this week googling places to explore and eat al fresco when we’re allowed out?! 🙋🏻♀️🌞🍹
This photo was taken in July 2019 - not long after we’d moved to London and were absolutely loving our newfound freedom and city living (and I was obvz pretty chuffed to find a street called Emma Street). Then along came Covid 🙄 - I’d barely scratched the surface of discovering what this city has to offer, so can’t WAIT to resume wandering around aimlessly getting lost again (and getting dem pasty pins out)
