Fleethaven Upholstery
Based in the Peak District, I give tired and unloved pieces a new lease of life and a new home.
Lots of new summer cushion panels all ready for ironing, overlocking and sewing. This range of 14” x 14” cushions (with or without feather insert) will be aviailable soon at the shop at Look out for them in August!
From the waist up this cute little Edwardian chair and its matching pair look good to go, but a little pre-upholstery minor surgery is required on both frames first. Got to get the basics right before I can do the pretty bit. Full reveal once they’ve re-covered! 😂
Hugely excited to have a couple of new items out on display at at the in Rowsley. The traditional antique sprung chair in teal fabric and modern footstool in Extravaganza Rainbow fabric are now both available. Why not treat yourself to a day out, have a mooch round and what the 30 lovely makers have in store for you in July?
Another commission completed, this time for lovely Sue in Buxton, who wanted a little bit of oomph for this beautiful antique family piece. Her father last recovered it in a rather dark colour, so it was ready for a return to some traditional upholstery materials, new bright fabric and matching trim. A delicate frame but we got there in the end!
A lovely commission for a lovely lady. My friend Beryl near Sheffield wanted something less “bouffant” for her cherished footstool, which was given to her by her “Grannie Annie” and which her own children and grandchildren have sat on over the years. We took it back to the original rectangular shape, with her choice of fabric. Thanks to Sue and Georgie of Fabric and Furnishing Solutions in for recommending the trim colour! Let me know if I can help you with a little special piece that needs some TLC. Mandi x
So proud to have spent the last year with these wonderfully supportive, understanding and inspirational women - Erica, Debbie, Lucy, Anika, Emma, and Jayne. We affectionately called ourselves the Kingfisher Crew, after the little bird who visited us almost every day of our course. We were so lucky that our room overlooked the water, and to be tutored by Jayne (on the right). I’m the shy, retiring one, naturally!
This traditionally-upholstered footstool is heading down to the shop at later this week. A nice way to brighten up someone’s day!
Super chuffed to have achieved an overall 97% distinction in Stage 1 of my AMUSF diploma - it’s been a very long year but all the sacrifices have been worth it. Can’t wait to start Stage 2 in September with in Bromsgrove.

What a hugely professional outfit Jane Clayton & Company is. I needed some samples for my A M U S F | Association of Master Upholsterers & Soft Furnishers Stage 1 project and these beautiful brocade, brocatelle and crewel samples of Zoffany Fabrics and Wallpapers arrived in a large folder. I hope to be able to use some of their fabric one day. Thank you so much! Mandi x
Thrilled to have sold this little bedroom chair the other weekend at TDM - The Derbyshire Makers shop at the in Rowsley. Why not pop down and have a look at all the beautiful things created by The Derbyshire Makers?
I owe these 2 ladies so much. Back in January I was really struggling, desperately unhappy at work, doing a job I hated and not at all in the right environment for me. I turned up at the TDM - The Derbyshire Makers pop-up shop, and these lovely people told me exactly what I needed to do, and why, and gave me a to-do list. So I went away and did it! I took a huge leap of faith and have worked hard to make it happen. So on the preview night in April, the three of us were able to celebrate! Forever in your debt Jude Shore Design and Julie Leggett Art. Love you both to bits. Mandi xx
It’s a good job I’ve got another couple of footstools ready for the TDM - The Derbyshire Makers shop at Peak Village, after some of my items found a home in May.
Why not pop down to see what other talented makers have to offer? There’s artists, ceramicist, jewellery makers, willow and metalwork sculptors and stained glass artists, to name but a few.
Treat yourself to a day out and have a lovely time!
Well what a month May has been, I think I need a sit down! After much unhappiness, soul-searching, failed previous efforts, a re-vamp, a new name and a couple of tough years, I finally quit my job in March and took the plunge. After 2 fairs with Tideswell Makers Market and TDM - The Derbyshire Makers Spring Fair, and a month at TDM - The Derbyshire Makers shop at Peak Village, I’ve sold 2 chairs, 2 footstools, several cushions and got 3 potential commissions to quote for. They say hard work pays off eventually so I’d better keep going. Thank you to everyone who has taken a card, come for a chat, praised my work, bought something, entrusted me with a much-loved item and mentored my leap of faith! It means the world and I’m so lucky to now be surrounded by kind, positive people who feed my soul. Can’t wait for June!! Mandi xx

Hugely grateful to Bryony in Kent for buying my grey Louis chair with matching footstool in Art Deco style fabric, which looks right at home (literally) in her fabulously bohemian and eclectic living room. My very first UK shipment required a quick drive up to Yorkshire to acquire some large enough packing boxes, but it was well worth it. Thanks so much Bryony, we got there in the end! M xx
A bit of a run on sales in the last couple of weeks, with cushion covers heading off to Lichfield (Staffs), Aldeburgh (Suffolk) and London.
