Did you know Welsh slate should be graded in thickness from number 1 to number 3
1 being the thickest & residing at the eaves of the roof and covering 7/8 courses up
as they deal with most of the water on a roof !
Number 2 are next followed by the number 3 the thinner slate 1 or 2 mil thick .

The term fat ladies is thought to have originated in the slate quarries of north wales & refers to a specific sized slate
16 x 10 inch ( believed to refer to a fuller -figured woman )
a 20 x 12 " slate is a Duchess and Countesses 24 x 12 " .

ASBESTOS - the mere word brings fear and trepidation .

In the UK asbestos is generally identified by colour - White , Blue & Brown

White - also known as Chrysotile is the most common , used in boilers , pipes ,
roofing materials ( corrugated sheets , guttering ) floor tiles & textured coatings .
Depending on the manufacturer of the time the general rule is corrugated sheets are roughly 15% asbestos fibres . Although before the 1989 ban in using asbestos fibres , some corrugated sheets were made up of corrugated paper , cardboard & other materials .
