Extensive refurbishment is well underway at The Climbing Academy’s Mothership venue in Bristol thanks to a six figure investment from us, through the South West Investment Fund (SWIF).
Securing a £460,000 investment, the funds will be used to help transform The Mothership, a bouldering and climbing centre located across two floors. In addition to the refurbishment, there’ll be three new jobs created.
The Mothership is The Climbing Academy’s flagship centre and hosts a large range of wellness rooms, including bouldering, a gym, a functional fitness rig, treatment room, café and much more. Refurbishment work is well underway to construct a new building to create a chalk-free reception, café, shop and an impressive new mezzanine viewing platform which is expected to complete by December 2024.

We’re pleased to announce the expansion of our North West team, following the appointment of Joe O’Connor and Barry Wilson as Assistant Investment Executive and Investment Executive, respectively.
They will focus on providing funding to regional businesses through the new £75 million NPIF II – FW Capital Debt Finance, part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II.
This fund offers finance ranging from £100,000 to £2 million, targeting businesses in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. We previously managed the successful delivery of the original £176 million NPIF - Debt Finance Fund.
With 10 years experience in banking working with businesses in relationship manager roles, Joe O’Connor will be based in our Preston office. He will concentrate on identifying and supporting ambitious businesses in Lancashire and Cumbria to achieve their growth goals through funding.
Barry Wilson brings an extensive background from his 42-year tenure in banking, where he delivered financial solutions across various sectors. Based in FW Capital’s Liverpool office, Barry will provide NPIF II funding to businesses throughout Merseyside.

Northumberland-based property developer, Lyham Developments, is nearing the completion of a eco-friendly housing project, made possible with funding through the North East Property Fund (NEPF).
This funding is facilitating the construction of two stylish four-bedroom homes at Brockdam Farm in Ellingham, Northumberland.
Brockdam Farm represents Lyham Developments’ first new build project, following their success with conversions and extensions. Set in a picturesque rural location, the natural stone homes will feature sustainable materials, including reclaimed elements and air source heating pumps.
Lyham Developments, founded in 2019 and led by property developer Guy Renner-Thompson, is paving the way for eco-conscious and luxurious living in Northumberland.

Our North East colleagues recently volunteered at Changing Lives, supporting the homeless housing project at Bentinck Terrace.
For 50 years, Changing Lives has been making a positive impact, assisting around 14,000 people annually through their hostels and day centres.
Bentinck Terrace, a beautifully restored Grade II Victorian property, offers 36 self-contained apartments with 24-hour support. It's designed for those ready to take the next step towards independent living. The project also provides access to crucial services, including alcohol and substance abuse support and life skills sessions.
Our colleagues helped with a variety of gardening tasks to help keep Bentinck Terrace in the best condition for the wider community!

Modern new family homes are being built in Gateshead, thanks to a £1.3million investment from us through the North East Property Fund.
Local developer Cokain Developments is using the funding to build nine new homes on the site of a former tennis court and disused pavilion in Dunston. The North East Property Fund was established with the aim of supporting the development of small-scale property schemes like this.
The development at Monkridge Court in Dunston features three different styles of four-bedroom detached and one style of six semi-detached homes with three bedrooms. Designed with the modern family in mind, the homes feature open plan living and use the highest quality materials for the build. Interest is high with one home already being sold before the site’s official launch. Completion is expected in June/July 2024.

New family homes are being developed in Norham after we backed Galagate Developments with a seven-figure investment through the North East Property Fund.
Local farmer and property developer Bruce Martin in using the funding to create and exclusive development of three stone-built conversions and five modern new build detached houses. Phase 1, consisting of the three stone-built conversions, is due to be finished towards the end of 2024.
‘I’ve also been very pleased with the support from FW Capital. Communication has been great with Tony Cullen and he’s ensured everything has run smoothly. Without their financial backing this wouldn’t be happening,’ explained Bruce, Director of Galagate Developments.

We’ve supported a digital e-commerce and marketing specialist with a six-figure investment boost to accelerate the growth of the business and support job creation.
Funding to support Evo Agency’s expansion has been provided by the British Business Bank’s South West Investment Fund (SWIF). They aim to create up to 20 new jobs over the next five years and become known as the leading digital e-commerce agency in the South West.
Evo Agency was founded by James Shakespeare. Today the firm is undergoing a significant transformation as it targets major growth into new areas.

We’ve provided Swansea based Economy Energy Group with £100,000 debt finance, the second investment made from the £130 million Investment Fund for Wales.
Launched by the government-backed British Business Bank in November of last year, the Investment Fund for Wales is designed to boost and supply early-stage finance to small and medium-sized businesses across Wales.
Our investment into Economy Energy Group, founded in 2014 by veteran electrician Anthony Dixey, is to help further growth of the business and has allowed for the employment of four new members of staff. The company have also purchased a fork lift truck, four new vans, completed an office renovation and installed a complete IT system to help manage their ongoing growth.

We’ve provided Corbridge-based Brockbushes a funding boost to support the development of a new 30,000 sq ft building including a range of services and offering all year-round entertainment for children.
Trading for 40 years, Brockbushes is a family run business that’s developed from selling home-grown produce from a flat-bed trailer to a thriving Farm Shop, Tea room and “Pick Your Own Farm”. Increased footfall has led the business to develop a new site which means the company will relocate to the new, larger, modern facility.
Work is well under way and the development, including a new Farm Shop, Deli, Butchery, Café and Playbarn, is expected to open in the summer and will create 15 to 20 new jobs, taking the total team to nearly 50.
