Sortie was released on this day five years ago.

This was a work-in-progress taster of new music and would feature on D.C.'s 2020 album Heritage.

D.C. comments -

The origins of this piece stretch back to 2004 and was inspired after every booze cruise day-trip visit to Calais and the journeys through the Channel Tunnel. The single version is different to the final album recording which had a four on the floor drum beat, which was accidentally left out of the mix but happy with it as it turned out in the end.

On this day in 2008 saw the release of the second album, cybercrime, a conceptual body of work highlighting the pros and cons of modern computer and mobile technology.

"Shredder" was released as a limited edition CD single prior to the release of the album.

Also on this day in 2013 saw the release of the EP, cybercrime reboot, consisting of reworked songs from the original album as well as a few new pieces written especially for the EP.

D.C. reflects -

"Being my second album, it was going to be a challenge but was more than just the 'second album syndrome'. I was trying to find a new way of recording following my first album which was all sequenced onto my synthesizer workstation. Most of 2007 into 2008 was spent with Cubasis and a multitrack recorder but lacked a method. Eventually I was putting down all sorts of sounds, taking a very Kraftwerk-esque style to the modern subject matters in songs such as "www", "bb" and "Identity", the latter a protest to the National Identity Card system of the time."

"Musically I had listened a lot to Recoil and was inspired by the unconventional approach to musical structures. This would prove very helpful to finishing this record.
I even sent a work-in-progress demo CD to Alan himself and he was very complimentary in my musical endeavours."

"In retrospect I have mixed feelings the idea of the reboot in 2013 as I feel was unnecessary to repeat the conceptual changes in a short gap of five years. However I look back at the whole era of cybercrime as a creatively exciting time and a record of importance helping me establish my musical foundation moving forward."

WINDOWPAINTING
BRAND NEW ALBUM BY D.C.

KEY17 Records is delighted to announce the release of Windowpainting, the brand new album by D.C. The two-track instrumental album, clocking under thirty minutes, soundtracks the famous children's story of The Piped Piper Of Hamelin.

D.C. comments -

This project has been years in the making, elements composed back in early 2021, up to the end of 2022, and finally recorded in the first quarter of this year. To make things radical I use a limited palette of sounds and restrict to one synth module, a technique inspired by Anthony Phillips's album 1984. This is also the first album where everything has been sequenced with MIDI connections from synths and keyboard into laptop.

Windowpainting is available today on Bandcamp
