Happy Greek Independence day from Real Lesvos!

Today, the 25th March, is a National Holiday in Greece marking ‘The Celebration of the Greek Revolution of 1821’, the anniversary of the start of the War of Independence from the Ottoman Empire (1821-1829).
There are big parades happening all over Greece with traditional costumes and lots of Greek flags. It's a special day on Lesvos too and visitors are always welcome to join in the parades and celebrations.

Food is, of course, important today too - fried cod (bakaliaros) and mashed potato with garlic (skordalia) are traditional dishes enjoyed on Independence Day.
