EDULIFE

Since 2016, as a UK registered charity, we have been working hard to enable young people in Zambia to access education. Our belief has always been that education has the power to change lives and transform communities. Sadly, after 7 years, we are sorry to announce that we have recently made the difficult decision to begin winding down the charity.

While we are sad that EDULIFE is coming to a close, we are extremely proud of the difference that we have made to the lives of those we have been able to support. Both James and Kelvin are great examples of students who we are extremely proud to have been able to support.

From all of us at EDULIFE, we would like to thank all of those who have been part of the charity over the years, donating both time and money to allow us to make a difference. We are so grateful for the support – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Douglas has a loving family, but they are very poor, this is their home. Sometimes, you just need someone to give you a chance to help you move forward. We provided that opportunity, and Douglas is currently on teaching practice and will soon be a qualified teacher. His parents are very proud of him, as are we!!

Yesterday was International Day of Education and never has it been more important. The UN statement for the day stated:
"Education must be prioritized to accelerate progress towards all the Sustainable Development Goals against the backdrop of a global recession, growing inequalities and the climate crisis."

Hendrix's family aren't impacted by the rising cost of fuel because they don't own a car. This means that Hendrix walks the 4 kilometres to school, which takes him about an hour. Whilst he does this without complaint he is impacted in that he can't stay for the after school further studies class which he'd really like to attend as he wants to improve his grades. We'd like to be able to provide Hendrix with a bicycle so he can take advantage of this additional support. Whilst we cover the costs for our students schooling when we in the programme team see grades slipping we investigate further, and discover that there's always that little extra we could do to help them be successful.

Gift isn't worried by the rising cost of electricity. Why, because his home doesn't have any electricity. However, without a light he struggles to get his homework done which does make him worry because he wants to do well at school. We feel he has enough challenges so we thought we'd solve the problem by getting him a solar light. The Victoria Falls is looking rather dry due to the lack of rain for the last six months!

Soon it will be back to its thundering self, locally known as Mosi Oa Tunya which translates to the Smoke that Thunders!

Big smiles from Zambia as the rains have finally started, meaning a break from 40+ degree days and some cooler temperatures. Zambia last saw rain in March/April!

These lovely students are Threaser and Jenalla, both currently in grade 10 at senior school. Neither would be in school at all if it wasn't for the generosity of our supporters enabling us to cover their fees.

They are both working hard, determined with our help, to continue into further education. Threaser is aspiring to study journalism and Jenalla nursing.

We recently held a Student Day for all our sponsored students. It was a brilliant chance for our secondary and university students to come together and we were also joined by our alumni students! It was a wonderful day and was hosted by our Zambian Committee and our Zambia Lead - Seb. We cannot wait to have another one soon!

Today is International Peace Day - Zambia has experienced 58 years of peace since Independence and we hope that continues for many years to come!
