Thrilled to have secured fourth place in the pedigree flock competition hosted by the Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society!

Competing for the first time against some top flocks has been an incredible learning experience. Huge thanks to judge John Parry for his visit and invaluable feedback.

My Aged Tup Chaileybrook 20/00669 stood Male Champion and went on to stand Reserve Supreme Breed Champion, and in a large class of high end gimmers Fulfen Florence, a Dartagnan daughter, performed well.

The Southdown Young Breeders Group has an exciting visit planned for this spring, with a trip to JCB Farms, Stoke on Trent taking place on the 13th July.

Farming more than 2000 Lleyn ewes, JCB Farms use Southdown rams as a terminal sire on their ewe hoggs, with all lambs finished on-farm for sale through the Daylesford brand.

In late Autumn, Tom Chester and I, with the help of the Southdown Sheep Society held the inaugural Young Breeders Event, which enabled breeders to learn about the art of preparing Southdowns for the show and sale rings, and also the fundamentals of judging sheep.

The day was a massive success, and brought together young breeders with varying levels of knowledge and experience.

The day would not have been so successful without the help of Nick Page and Jonathan Long giving demonstrations and providing invaluable tips for the enthusiastic breeders. Also a massive thank you to Will Morton for hosting the event and providing sheep for everyone to get involved. Finally thank you Chrissie Long for documenting the day with some fabulous photos, but also assisting some of the young breeders during the trimming practical.

Overall a fantastic day, and I look forward to seeing you all again in the Spring for the next SDYB event.

The Southdown Young Breeds Group is organising an autumn event for anyone with an interest in the breed aged 10-28.

The event which will take place on Saturday 28th October will focus on show and sale preparation and stock judging, with workshops led by Nick Page of the Goodwood flock and Jonathan Long of the Chaileybrook flock.

Took the show team to Moreton in the Marsh for there last outing. It’s been quite a year and I have learned a lot. Thank you to everyone that has helped me, it’s certainly been a special one.

Second outing for my CB Diablo sired March born ram lamb, who stood his own against some early born lambs.

My ewe lamb Fulfen Florence did me proud as always placing second for the 6th time!! I’m looking forward to seeing how this CB Dartagnan daughter develops!

And so pleased how my twin gimmers have developed, out of the same dam as my junior stock sire Fulfen Frisbee, a ewe that just keeps giving.

A selection of March born ram lambs avaliable, all with great conformation and body. Bloodlines back to Chaileybrook Diablo and senior stock tup Fulfen Boomer.
