I remember making the decision to start up Norfolk House Designs. Martha was really small & I made a few bits for our own walls & friends wanted me to make some bits for them so I thought why don’t I do it as a business & see what happens.
It’s tough going sometimes as I’m no business entrepreneur, Etsy boggles my mind, Google seo is a foreign language & I have another full time job so all NHD stuff gets done on evenings & weekends. I do love doing it though! I really love it when people hang my art up in their homes & it makes them smile. The markets I have done so far have been great too. I have made quite a few sales & met the most lovely people which has been so nice. It has been a great decision to start my own business & fingers crossed I can make it into something I do full time one day 🤞🏻 I may need to get a masters in marketing first though 😂

I’m still out of action in hospital & ironically did not have a good night 🤦🏼‍♀️ My little op did no go quite as planned so highs & lows for todays prompt for seems quite apt. I would have to say the biggest high so far for Norfolk House Designs was the fair last weekend. I had so much fun & met so many lovely ladies, I can’t wait to do my next one on Sunday ! I was unsure about doing fair’s initially & it was a lot of work to get my stall up & running but so worth it. Also I get a great kick out of seeing my designs in people houses I see that as the best high. Creating something that makes other people smile & love enough to put up in their own homes
Definitely makes it all worthwhile 🙂

P L A N N I N G
Is todays prompt for that’s pretty much all I did last week. Plan for my first market to get my stall up & running. John helped loads, Mr organised was as his name suggests all over it & had me in & set up in 30 mins. He’s def a keeper 😉 Now time to plan for my next market this Sunday at hope to see some of you there. Even if not to buy my prints the food stalls there are amazing so worth a trip out for the sausage rolls & cake alone!! 😬

Is todays prompt for I have been too busy to photograph the many errors I made today but there have been plenty 😂 learning graphic design definitely has many trial & error stages!! Lots of little errors mainly, although I have at times threatened to throw my computer out the window of my studio, but then it all generally comes good in the end. I’m a big fan of thinking that as my life mantra. Most things (& I’ve been through A LOT) in my life come good in the end, you just have to keep throwing yourself into things, relationships, work, starting new businesses 😉 & be prepared to fall, as in the great words of Erin Hanson, oh but my darling what if you fly? 🙂

This is the prompt for todays (well it was yesterdays prompt & I’m trying to catch up, but who’s counting 🤫)

This is me 👋🏻 I’m Laura the one woman band behind . Im married to John, the best human being I know, we have a daughter who has just turned 3 & I have 3 brilliant step kids… so we run a busy house most days! I work full time doing something very different to print design, but hoping one day to turn it into a full time job🤞🏻

Over the last 6 years John & I have renovated 2 houses, got married (in jeans at our local registry office) had a baby & started a business whilst both working full time 🤪 feels like we never stop but we do like it busy & chaotic.

As you can see from my GIANT coffee cup I’m a big fan of caffeine & pretty sure I’m paying Mr Costa’s kids through uni somewhere in the world right now. I started my instagram account to look at pretty interior design accounts & follow only 3 people I know in real life so it’s been slow going getting followers as I know no one but hoping to break you all one at a time & eventually take over the world of 😎😂

I’m a few days late… but I’m taking the lead from my awesome friend & am going to be taking part in which is a fabulous idea by as a way of small businesses introducing themselves & their brand with prompts throughout March to post about their business. I’m late as my birthday was 1st & I may have had 2 days off work to celebrate 😂

Norfolk House Designs was born due to a house renovation & a hatred of white hospital walls… In 2017 my husband & I renovated our first house together. It was finished beautifully, and I filled it full of art. I love art! When we fell pregnant, we decided to move to a bigger house. We bought a large run down mess of a house called Norfolk House, (swipe to see her) which needed LOADS of work. My daughter was then born 8 weeks premature and rather than move into our new house I moved into the hospital. I spent the worst 2 months of my life staring at white walls so when we finally got to take her home to Norfolk House I vowed to fill the walls with colour. We renovated a few rooms in the house, and it came time to put up art and I couldn’t find the things I wanted in the colours I wanted… so I made my own! Friends and family wanted me to make art for them and Norfolk House Designs was born. It is still a new business and I still work full time elsewhere but I do hope to turn it into something I can do full time one day as I love it 😃

Spent the day in London yesterday in a meeting. I love to visit. The restaurants are so cool 😎 I love the hustle & bustle & everyone just doing their own thing but always glad to get home to my little slice of calm up north. Although a night in a posh hotel with no toddler or twirling husband was very nice… pretty sure he doesn’t read my captions on here either so I’m all good 😂

Today we took Martha to her dance class, then when we got home she insisted on painting so cue my kitchen looking like… well like a toddler was allowed to run riot with paint 🎨🤪

This afternoon I’m thinking park, tea & early night 😬 rock & roll Saturday 🤘🏻 I miss my 20’s when Saturday nights were for heels, short skirts & Bacardi & lemonade as far as the eye could see 😂

Today rather than work on my shop I took the tiny human on a play date with an old school friend. It was lovely to catch up & watch our kids play together when we used to do the same 🥰

Then I worked this afternoon before collecting the tiny human only to be screamed at as her socks weren’t right & she didn’t want the plate I gave her, her books were all wrong & she needed milk on her sandwich or she wouldn’t eat it 😑 did I mention John is away on a course?! I’m pretty sure she senses weakness & is ALWAYS hard work when he’s away 🫤 although I believe they invented wine for this very reason… So cheers 🥂 good people of instagram from a mum on the edge & a bottle of Tesco’s finest 😂

True story… I travelled from Nottingham to Ramsgate to visit Margot’s shop one weekend & it was fully worth the 4 hour drive! Lovely lady & a gorgeous shop. Couldn’t recommend a day trip out that way enough. She recommended places to visit & restaurants to eat in all of which were fab 😊

Today I’ve been printing lots of lovely new things & trying to book into my first ever fair 😱 wish me luck people I fancy it will be chaos 😂🤞🏻

I’ve got the week off my real job to work on my Etsy shop & get my little business up & running. It’s looking pretty jazzy after day one, even if I do say so myself 😂 John is away training & the toddler is at nursery all week so hoping to have it all nailed by Friday with all this peace & quiet🤞🏻
