Physio Farana
Mental Health Awareness Week
As a physio, I primarily treat peoples physical symptoms (pain, stiffness, weakness etc) but did you know a persons mental health plays a huge role on the outcome of their rehab?
The majority of my clients suffer with some degree of mental health involvement, be it low mood over their injury, anxiety over going back to work, PTSD after an accident, or something else in their personal lives unrelated to their injury. Through treatment sessions, I help people’s mental health on a daily basis. How? By talking to them and listening to them. The power that a simple conversation can have on someone’s mental health is immense. I’ve had people open up about many things; marital problems, substance abuse, worries over terminally ill partners, to name a few. Being a safe person to someone, where they feel comfortable to open up to you on that level, is a privilege. I believe building a rapport with clients and adopting a holistic approach to treatment, taking into account ALL factors that affect someone health and well-being, is THE most successful approach to rehab.
As a mental heath sufferer myself, I can hand on heart say: Mental Health Matters 🧡🧠
I am more than happy to be a listening ear to anyone in need, client or not, no judgement and of course fully confidential
Feedback Friday ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This client had severe back pain and stiffness, to the point where he struggled to get out of bed in the mornings and was impacting his mental health. His treatment consisted of various manual therapy techniques and an exercise programme. He told me his aim was to get back on a horse again which he managed to do several months later, pain free!
Consistency and adherence to treatment and rehabilitation is the key to success 🔑 💪🏽

ACUPUNCTURE - FAQ’s
What to expect at a treatment?
Acupuncture uses single-use, disposable needles. These needles are inserted in various points in your body, some within the painful area, some away from it.
The needles will usually be left in position for about 15-30mins. You should feel a sense of relaxation and maybe even a little sleepy during and after your treatment.
Is it safe?
Yes, absolutely. Acupuncture is very safe. There is no risk of infection as the needles are pre-sterilised and single use. Side effects are very rare, at 1 in every 10,000 treatments.
Some people experience symptoms such as bruising and/or bleeding, but this is minimal and short-term. Others can feel faint or dizzy after treatment; to prevent this we recommend you don’t have treatment on an empty stomach.
Is it painful?
Not usually. Most needles you won’t even notice them being inserted. There my be some discomfort on certain points, this is known as “De Qi” in Chinese Medicine, but this is very short-term during your treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
We would recommend at least 3 treatments to determine if acupuncture is beneficial to you, as acupuncture has a cumulative effect. Most people will however notice the benefit from their first session.
Acupuncture is always used as an additional treatment method, so alongside it you will receive manual therapy, electrotherapy, soft tissue massage and/or exercises too.
As of Monday 1st of May, I will be offering an evening clinic to accommodate clients that are working and cannot manage day time appointments. These clinic slots are already filling up fast, so if you want an after work appointment, get in touch sooner rather than later!
Clinic appointments from May will be available during the following days/hours:
Monday 4pm - 7pm
Tuesday 9.30am - 3.30pm
Wednesday 9.30am - 3.30pm
As usual, you can book online on Heart Space’s website using the link in my bio or contact me directly.

CALLING ALL TAYSIDE RESIDENTS - we need your opinion!
We are hoping to start up a Walk/Jog/Run group in Angus, Perth & Kinross and Dundee in the very near future and would like to know your thoughts. 🏃
Please let us know your thoughts here: https://forms.office.com/e/xXrP56PqMQ
There is no experience at all required to join one of our jogging groups - by 'jogging group', we don't mean you have to do so continuously as it will be completely flexible that you can walk whenever you wish!
Perhaps you have progressed slightly beyond walking but not ready to start running, or even if you don't ever want to progress to a run but would like to jog a bit more regularly, then this is the group for you! It will be a great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a chat also.
Please feel free to share!
Fully booked this week. However appointments are available for next week Monday and Wednesday at Heart Space.
Also from May, I’ll be offering an evening clinic for those needing an “after work” appointment.
