Alder Tree - a Steiner Waldorf Home Education Centre
Welcome to Alder Tree Home Education Centre
Head, Heart & Hands Education for Joyful Children
Group 4/5 had the most fantastic time at the Ancient Greek Olympics. Five Waldorf Homeschooling Groups came together to participate in the four day event on a farm in Dorset where they trained in running (various distances), high jump, long jump, discus, javelin, wrestling, relay and poetry.
On Saturday parents were invited to see the opening ceremony, followed by all the events…. concluded by a medal ceremony at which every child received a beautiful handmade and fired clay medal.
Qualities such as strength and determination in the marathon, beautiful rainbow like throw of the javelin and perseverance during wrestling… were examples of why a child received their medal. 🏅
An experience the children will remember for the rest of their lives.
Join us for our FINAL COFFEE Morning for the term!!
Thank you to everyone who came to visit our centre at the open day yesterday!
It was a great day, so much to see and do.
Thank you to the parents who baked such delicious cakes and helped make the day a success in various ways.
We are looking forward to meeting many of our guests again soo. 😊
We celebrated Whitsun at our centre yesterday. All (children, parents and tutors) wore white clothes which felt very festive. Music, 🎻🎹 singing and a story formed part of the occasion, and then the sounding of many different languages… to celebrate diversity and community… such important elements for children to experience as part of their education.
Languages represented were: Hindi, Latin, Arabic, Welsh, Afrikaans, German, Georgian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Estonian, Russian, English.
“You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”.
Group 1 made beautiful Whitsun doves 🕊 and lovely paintings for our festival which took place yesterday.

Group 1 has been busy with learning about their surroundings such as flowers in bloom. They made flower crowns and daisy chains with wild flowers grown in Alder Tree‘s gardens.
While we learn about our surroundings, we improve our finger dexterity, fine motor skills and get a good dose of sensory inputs(visual, kinaesthetic, smell.)
Our younger pupils are busy working in the garden and learning about farming… 🐄 🐑 🐖 🌽 🥬
Group 4/5 are busy studying Botany… learning about ferns, mos, lichen, mushrooms among many other wondrous things…
A few impressions from our open day and talk yesterday. 😀

It was a lovely evening yesterday as the community came together at our neighbouring village hall to see groups 4/5 and 6/7 perform their play “The Loathly Lady” and a couple of orchestra pieces. A number of ex pupils came to support the occasion too and meet their friends… and a lot of tasty cake was offered and consumed, including lemonade prepared by group 2/3.
Well done to the actors, it was truly entertaining and insightful. 😊👏
Look what the children in group 1 made from things found in our beautiful grounds! ☀️🌳🌲🌱🌿
So many ways of learning creatively, using art and imagination. This way each day is a journey of discovery and has meaning for the child.
Here some examples of Maths work, painting, recorder playing and reading practice in group 1.
Come and find out what’s on offer for your little ones…. 0-3 and 3-6 year olds.
Open Morning on Sat 1st April. ☀️
The weather has been very mixed recently, but Spring has definitively arrived on our grounds. The daffodil spiral outside our main building is in full bloom. 😊
