Welcome to the New Year! 2022 what are you preparing for us?

New Year is always a great time for new challenges!

What can the UX industry bring to you?

User Experience is a very wide topic. To understand the people who use the product, we need to gain research knowledge. Nothing here is black and white, and you can get a variety of answers to one question.

Designing interfaces, experiences, graphics, and content is a really tough business. It takes months, years, many projects, and courses to call yourself a professional. And gaining experience takes a lot of effort.

One thing is for sure, there is no lack of challenges and opportunities in the UX world. So, who wants to join a wide group of UXers?

#1 Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug - The Godfather of UX and usability design.
#2 The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman explores the relationship between a user and a design.
#3 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People by Susan Weinschenk focuses on the psychology of UX.
#4 Lean UX by Jeff Gothelf and Josh Seiden teaches how to transform ideas into functional solutions.

Anthropomorphic animations were predicted to reign UX design in 2021.
What are they? They bring objects to live by mimicking movements of human body.

They are used to draw user attention, evoke emotions of curiosity, interest, and put the user at ease. How? Through empathy.

They work best if they mimic the emotions that the user may be feeling at right that moment. For example, the animation of yawning when the screen mouse hasn’t moved for a while.

The anthropomorphic animations are a very immersive form of human-like interaction between the UI and a user. Their subtlety is welcomed as users are looking for less distracting and more supporting design features when interacting with digital products.

AR combines real-life data with computer-generated images. The output is usually a visual image that presents augmented reality (AR).

It is not necessary to purchase a VR set to experience AR, many apps offer the AR experience on a daily basis. One example is PokemonGO app.

But the question is: is AR an added bonus or a must-have? AR is one of the emerging technologies that offers an extremely engaging experience.

It can guarantee app's success but one thing worth recognizing is that when using technology users are looking for an experience rather than the newest tech. If AR doesn't add value to the experience, it shouldn't be forced into the development plan.

Marcin has joined our team! He has started working in graphic design for over 10 years. Marcin himself describes his style of work as fast but precise - and well, it's hard not to agree with him.

Always open to the client's needs, empathetic, but at the same time following the trends and being creative.

For now, he gives it his all, meets deadlines and focuses on communication. However, when the world gets completely tired of him, he will give it all up and become a forest grandfather - somewhere in the Bieszczady Mountains.

Accessibility episode 4

Have you ever heard the term "temporary disability"?

Well, the truth is that we've all experienced it at some point in our lives. Due to various diseases, accidents, or other factors, we may start to hear, see, or simply absorb information less efficiently for a while.

The reason behind this can even be a simple headache or a cold.

Therefore, accessibility issues concern everyone. None of us are fully functional throughout our lives, every day. But we use digital products every day. It’s worth remembering this when you want to design an accessible product.

We had to deal with this problem in such a project for the Zapłać Receptę portal. It’s a place to contact doctors, where patients can receive and pay remotely for a prescription.

Timeline photos 14/12/2021

Blur and transparency make the glassmorphism effect controversial from the accessibility perspective.

Glassmorphism is one of the 20/21 trends therefore designers around the world are probably scratching their heads looking for ways to make it more accessible. How to solve the issue?

To improve the accessibility, you could try sharpening the border contrast or using a font color that distinguishably differentiates itself from the background. The contrast should reach at least the AA ratio to match the WCAG guidelines.

2. You could also consider using a larger font Alternatively you could play around with gradient and opacity.

User testing will help you find the best solution for your design!

UX Audit 09/12/2021

Is it worth conducting an audit? We always say yes. This is the perfect way to find out more about your product and be able to improve it.

We have recently carried out an audit of the okapykuchenne pl website for HerlinGroup. We took a thorough look at the website in terms of UX. Thanks to our knowledge and cooperation with HerlinGroup team, we were able to determine which areas in the product do not work as they should and may be difficult for users.

We listed all the errors found and prioritized them on a scale from critical to those that do not require immediate attention. In addition, we have created recommendations for changes.

Need a UX audit? Contact us!

UX Audit This project aimed to conduct an audit for the okapykuchenne.pl online store. We audited desktop and mobile views as well as the entire information architecture. We also created a sitemap and user flow showing the buying process.

Accessibility episode 3

Issues with accessibility for deaf people mostly relate to audio and video materials. How can we make them available?

One method that comes to mind is adding subtitles. And it's definitely worth doing. However, this is not a perfect solution. Written texts are not so easily accessible to deaf people.

Why? Because written language is often their second language. They don’t always know it that well, and not everyone can read it. Therefore the ideal solution is adding visual translations in sign language.

It’s often not simple or cheap to execute. But if you have the opportunity to do it don't hesitate because this way, more deaf users will be included in the digital world.

Timeline photos 07/12/2021

Glassmorphism is a background blur effect. It was first introduced by Apple in the pull-down notifications bar. It is used to achieve a sense of perspective, almost as if the screen was floating in a 3D space

The effect works best on colorful light backgrounds although it can also be used with dark or contrasting colors. Usability makes glassmorphism a controversial subject, so please use it with care

It is commonly used as a decorative feature in taskbars, Start Menu items, and toolbars. It is a helpful tool in creating pop-up windows without losing visibility over the main UI screen.

Accessibility episode 2️⃣

Digital products don't exist just on phones and computers. It is also, for example, self-service kiosks, like the one in McDonald. And here, the topic of accessibility for people in wheelchairs comes in. ♿

We dealt with this when designing a kiosk for the Spanish Repsol gas station. The kiosk is placed at such a height that clients have to use it in a standing position.

So, we designed a special button for people in wheelchairs. Pressing it makes the whole screen reduce to half and then all-important functions are at the bottom. ⏬

It’s a very important and needed solution. Remember about it when designing that kind of digital product!

Accessibility episode 1️⃣

How to make products accessible to the sightless and visually impaired people?

This is a very wide topic, but we will give you few tips, to begin with.
•Create simple content. Adequately describe links, form fields, headers. Thanks to this, the screen readers will have no problem reading the content using the voice synthesizer.
•Audio pages are not a solution. Primarily because they require an application that needs to be installed first.
•Take care of the contrast. In the case of visually impaired people, the contrast between the background and the content is crucial.

We already have experience in creating such products. One of them is the Okularium 👓 website. Due to the main subject (sale of glasses), accessibility for the visually impaired was a priority for us.

Timeline photos 23/11/2021

It seems obvious, doesn't it? So, why are we even bringing this up? Well, because this obvious issue is very easy to be forgotten about in the UX design process.

While working on a project, we often create an image of the user in our head, and there is a danger that what we create has little to do with reality and thus what we create won't resonate with them.

Why is it so tricky, if we create projects for ordinary people, just like us, and design their everyday experiences with digital products? To not fall into this loophole, it is worth considering user testing techniques that will keep us focused on who the user is.

Timeline photos 18/11/2021

We asked our UI designers for tips that they wish someone had given them at the beginning of their career. 🐣 Would you like to know what they were? Carry on reading...

First of all, when working on a project remember what the goal of UI is. The focus is to create a visually appealing product that will attract users. Don't distract yourself from that goal. 🎯 Our UI designers are constantly updating their knowledge by following UI gurus, actively joining conversations in UI groups on social media, and reading about the latest trends at uxmag.com.

Second of all, remember that anything you do should be user-centric. To create an outstanding UI design, you have to know your user in and out. Remember to tap into the research stage of the project, and find out who the persona is.

Have you got any industry-specific questions that you would like to ask our UI teammates? Comment below or send us a DM and we will get back to you! You can also let us know if you would like a UI audit of your digital product!

The research presumption is that the more research subjects, the more reliable your data is. However, Nielsen Norman Group claims that when it comes to the efficiency of usability testing, the optimal size of the test group is 5 users 🧑‍💻

It is because the more users participate the less you learn as the majority of the observations will overlap The first user brings the highest number of findings. Testing with the second user will bring some new observations while some will overlap. Due to this overlap the more users you test with, the more inefficient it becomes.

Therefore, testing with 5 users will provide you with a sufficient amount of observations and save you time and money. Do you agree?

Glitch art celebrates the vulnerable and fragile relationship between humans and technology. It is rebellious, provocative, retro, and futuristic. Like punk-rock music, glitch art is not for the masses!

We would recommend looking into glitch art if:
-Brand personality reflects alternative, designer, and futuristic value that acknowledges imperfection.
-Persona is emotionally triggered by creative “happy accidents” or controlled chaos.
-The audience resonates with insecurity, progress, and transparency.

The perfect use cases for glitch UX design are fashion websites, tech museums, established IT businesses looking to refresh their branding, night clubs, art galleries or expo websites, show business-related websites (for example a tour promo landing page), or 404 error pages.

Would you be into “glitching up” your brand?

It is said that the most efficient way to improve products or services is by asking customers for feedback

Feedback is usually connotated with things going wrong, but that's not necessarily the case. Feedback can be constructive and allow reflection on your work. It is also a chance to feel appreciated when a job is well done.

After every completed assignment, we ask our customers for feedback. You can take a look at what they had to say about us here https://pos.li/2jrfg3

Equally, this applies to work culture within the business, too. Providing feedback can reassure employees that they are on the right track to meet business goals and that they are performing up to business standards

Timeline photos 02/11/2021

E-commerce websites are rich in product shots and lifestyle imagery hard to navigate for visually impaired users. You can use HTML-coded product title and description fields, but the accessibility secret lays in object-action-context image descriptions 📓

One example of image description for fashion e-commerce would be: “Midi black plain v-neck dress (object) fits tightly (action) on a plus-size model with curvy hips (context)” or “Stretch material slim fit white shirt (object) fits comfortably (action) on a tall skinny male model (context).

Even though excessively detailed descriptions are discouraged, providing the model’s height would be helpful in this case.

What should you take into account to create a user-friendly online store?

⚫That good e-commerce needs the best UX

The users’ experiences are the most important here, so they need to be properly designed.

A good store is primarily about:

➡️intuitive interfaces,
➡️clear messages (what happened, what is happening, what can happen),
➡️giving the users the feeling that they have contact with a real person who is leading them around the store.

The 90s aesthetic has a MAJOR COMEBACK!

The 90s look is all about the nostalgia for a simpler time A heart-warming feeling that also puts a smile on your face because the tech back then was really basic It has really come a long way in such a short period of time

The design features include mellow & toned vintage skater color schemes such as Panetone’s Harvest Gold, Rust, or Corsair. It is also characterized by pixelated typography, screen tearing, glitch transitions, and primitive but still cool 3D animation that kids born after 99s won't understand
