On balance

Your hand opens and closes, opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralysed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and co-ordinated as bird's wings.

Curiosity is something I talk about often in my classes.

I think it’s so interesting to notice how our experience can change when we adopt an attitude of curiosity and playfulness, rather than of expectation or judgment.

Approaching each pose with curiosity draws our attention back inwards. It can bring a freshness to poses we’ve done a million times before, encouraging us to feel into the more subtle sensations in our body, or appreciate the constantly-changing quality of the breath.

It can also ease our apprehension as we approach a new pose for the first time, encouraging us to listen to the signs our bodies are giving us, rather than getting caught up in the urge to compete against our classmates, or push ourselves beyond our limits.

When we get into the habit of approaching our yoga practice with curiosity, it becomes a lot easier to bring that same lightness off of our yoga mats and into our lives. Gradually we begin a more playful interaction with what's unfolding before us and enjoy each moment for the adventure it is.

Wishing you a wonderful, curiosity-filled week!

Do not wait…

"Do not wait until the conditions are perfect to begin. Beginning makes the conditions perfect."

~ Alan Cohen

Full-disclosure - I am a procrastinator. Highly skilled at putting things off and making excuses, especially when it comes to the things that I really want.

And yes, sometimes we actually do need more time, or life is just too busy, or the timing isn't quite right. But so often what's holding us back is fear. Fear of change and fear of failure.

Procrastination is like quicksand, it keeps us stagnant, and while we're waiting we're missing out on living and accomplishing our dreams.

What are you putting off right now? Maybe its a health or relationship goal, going for a promotion, a dream trip, or a course you've been meaning to study.

My goal is to get over my fear of putting myself out there on social media, so I’m taking each post as a baby-step. What small action could you make today to move you closer to your goal?

Noticing...

"It is not easy to move away from old ingrained ways of being, but it starts in yoga practice with the gradually improving capacity to pay attention.

Initially this might simply be noticing how we organise the body in space - noticing, for example, whether our feet are well organised or not.

It can soon develop into an awareness of muscular movement patterns, of how we deal with breathing and, perhaps later, how we respond to a certain person who makes us feel emotionally defensive."

Quiet places

London can be such a chaotic, busy place, but when you know where to look, you can also find the most beautiful little pockets of calm. The Barbican Centre is one of my favourite spots in London for this.

What is your favourite location to escape the hubbub and find some peace, quiet, and inspiration?

A little about me...

I first discovered yoga while working in a demanding role in the City and was impressed by the sense of calm, wellbeing and mental resilience it fostered.

As a lifetime lover of dance, I was drawn to the Vinyasa Flow style, with its graceful sequences set to music and a strong focus on the breath.

After over ten years of consistent practice, and multiple teacher trainings, I decided to combine my passion for teaching yoga and meditation with my corporate background to create an accessible offering for office workers and busy professionals.

My clients range from large London corporates, to start-ups and individuals.

If you recognise yourself in any of these scenarios, maybe I can help you. Drop me a line, I'd love to hear from you!

Group classes are a great place to connect with like-minded people, learn, have fun and feel supported. Whether you’re all working on a new pose together or meditating in sync, the energy shared in a group class is a special experience.

In every class I offer possibilities for all levels of experience, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners, so that everyone feels comfortable and challenged.

Working 1 - 1

My 1-1 yoga sessions are great for both beginners looking to learn the ropes, or more seasoned practitioners who want to refine their skills. Working 1-1 allows you to personalise the yoga or meditation practice to your needs, interests and schedule.

Private sessions support learning at a pace that's right for you, and allow you to try out more challenging poses or exercises in a safe space. They also provide an opportunity to ask the questions there are never time for in a group class and get focused feedback.

And that's just a few of the benefits!

Send me a message if you’d like to know more about working together 1-1.

Corporate Wellness

Workers and Employers are facing an increasingly complex set of challenges in the post-pandemic era.

Prolonged stress and uncertainty, mixed with the pressures of hybrid working, and a technology-enabled ‘always on’ culture, are all creating disconnect and burnout.

Yoga and mindfulness can help to restore work-life balance and contribute to a healthier, happier, more productive workforce.

Would love to know what you think about workplace wellness? Would you be up for yoga or meditation with your colleagues?

It's never too late.

"For what it's worth: its never too late to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again."'
