CBD may aid weight loss due to how it affects the body and brain.
The effects of CBD in the body are largely due to how it affects the body’s natural endocannabinoid system. This system responds to different chemicals in the body through two cannabinoid (CB) receptors, called the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are most dense in the brain and central nervous system. CB2 receptors are mainly in the immune system.
In people with obesity, however, CB1 receptors become more widespread, especially in fatty tissue. Because of this, researchers believe that there may be a link between the activation of the CB1 receptors and obesity.
CBD works with other cannabinoids to potentially activate many receptors, such as endocannabinoid and serotonin. This may play a role in weight loss or other critical metabolic functions.

Proponents of CBD for weight loss also claim that it can convert white, or “bad,” fat into brown fat, which may help the body burn calories.
White fat may increase the risk of many chronic conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.
A 2016 study helps back up this claim. The researchers found that CBD plays multiple roles in how the body interacts with fat.
In the study, CBD helped convert white fat cells into brown fat cells. It also stimulated the body to break down fats more efficiently.
The researchers note that CBD may be a promising therapy for preventing obesity, but more studies in humans are necessary.
Research from 2018 helps explain how CBD might break down fats in the body. The process of turning white fat cells to brown fat cells actually changes how these cells act in the body.
Brown fat cells may be a more active form of fat. They burn off energy as heat, meaning that they actually burn calories.
As a loss of calories is important for weight loss, CBD may help burn fat if it turns white fat to brown fat in the body.

How CBD Works to Improve Focus and Concentration

CBD contains compounds that interact directly with the brain by influencing the production of dopamine. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter responsible for mental awareness, focus, and memory, among other functions. Most people suffering from attention deficit and lack of focus often have very low dopamine levels in the blood

Although ingesting or smoking medical ma*****na may help increase dopamine levels, there is also the risk of taking too much. Irregular spikes of dopamine in the blood are believed to cause/hinder memory and focus; one of the reasons the chemical ought to be kept in check.

CBD, however, provides a better way of regulating dopamine levels in the blood. You should, therefore, ensure your CBD is of the highest quality for it to work.
Taking CBD every day does help regulate dopamine levels in the brain, thus improved focus and concentration. Although CBD is obtained from the cannabis plant, it is free of THC, the compound with psychoactive properties.

That said, you never have to worry about getting ‘high’ from using pure CBD products. Our CBD oil is extracted from the cannabis plant, grown in a controlled environment) and packs many health benefits, including improved focus and concentration. CBD oil not only helps improve your ability to concentrate more but also has relaxing properties as well. People suffering from anxiety disorders and attention deficit can, therefore, benefit greatly from CBD oil.

The endocannabinoid system and ME

There have been a small number of studies investigating the role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the development and progression of ME, and several studies investigating its role in stress and generalized fatigue, and post-viral fatigue conditions. There’s also a relatively abundant number of studies on the ECS and related conditions such as FMS, chronic stress, and multiple sclerosis (which also numbers chronic fatigue among its primary symptoms and is in many ways similar to ME itself).
Essentially, it seems that the common thread underlying ME and chronic stress is inflammation within the brain and the tissues of the central and peripheral nervous system. While inflammation is not generally thought to be a symptom of FMS, that may be changing.
There’s a growing body of evidence suggesting that the reverse may in fact be true, and that inflammation of the fasciae (the sheet of connective tissue that surrounds and encloses muscles and organs within the body) may play a central role in FMS. In multiple sclerosis, inflammation and destruction of the myelin sheaths surrounding the neurons of the brain and central nervous system is the underlying cause.
It has been firmly established that the ECS has a fundamental role to play in the occurrence and management of inflammation, and its involvement in FMS is also well-known. Furthermore, the fact that chronic stress is a major cause of inflammation in the central and peripheral nervous system is also now becoming well understood.

Medical news and articles state that getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most essential yet overlooked necessities in one’s life – so, what could help you sleep better?

There are several reasons why people have a hard time sleeping. It may be due to mental issues (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder), certain medicines, continuous intake of caffeinated drinks, and outside factors such as noise.

CBD has been shown have an overall benefit on sleeping patterns by regulating the Endocannabinoid system. The system responsible for controlling such things as, mood, appetite, digestion, pain perception, blood flow and immune response.
Research suggests that CBD can help also treat anxiety which is a main cause of sleeplessness.
Another factor that can contribute to sleeplessness is pain, in any form. A study conducted reported that CBD helps decrease pain, which ultimately reduces the discomfort felt when sleeping.
In another research study conducted in 2014 by researchers from University of São Paulo, Brazil, the subjects had Parkinson’s Disease, which involved a disorder in the rapid eye movement (REM) during sleep. The patients had REM sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) wherein they act out in response to their dreams and have a hard time sleeping. With CBD usage, the symptoms dramatically improved. In line with the study conducted with RBD, another research published in Springer Nature concluded that CBD intake might helped treat the disorder.

Although clinical research connecting the health benefits of CBD oil to cannabis is slow to materialize, there’s still a lot of patient-driven interest in whether CBD, which can be used as an oil, balm, cream, or salve, can help treat psoriasis.

Some studies have been encouraging, including one study conducted in 2007, which found that cannabinoids, including CBD, slowed down the growth and division of skin cells involved in psoriatic skin rashes.
“We know that cannabinoids like CBD can reduce inflammation and pain,” David Casarett, MD, chief of palliative care at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, tells Health. “Again, what we’re seeing right now is that most of the evidence is circumstantial but promising.”
Another very small study of psoriasis patients conducted in 2019 is equally compelling. The study was led by researchers in Italy and showed that applying topical CBD-enriched ointment on psoriatic skin did help to reduce psoriasis symptoms.
In the study, five psoriasis patients applied CBD ointment to those areas of their skin affected by psoriasis twice a day for three months. After that time, researchers concluded that the ointment was not only safe and effective but it improved the quality of life for psoriasis

How CBD might improve daily life

In addition to helping to treat skin itching and irritation, CBD may also help psoriasis patients control pain and reduce inflammation.
That’s why Hervé Damas, MD, a physician at Grassroots Medicine and Wellness, a cannabis medical practice in Miami, says he uses CBD—which has few side effects and is considered safe overall—as a part of the psoriasis treatment plans he recommends for his patients.

How Can CBD Oil Help with Eczema?

Dr. Henry Granger Piffard, M.D., founding editor of the Journal of Cutaneous and Venereal Diseases, wrote the first textbook of dermatologic therapeutics, where he said:

“A pill of cannabis indica at bedtime has at my hands sometimes afforded relief to the intolerable itching of eczema.”

Since then, there have been numerous studies published on the potential benefits of cannabinoids in skin conditions.
Relatively low levels of cannabinoids are required to have an effect on the skin, which then results in low systemic absorption into the bloodstream, eliminating the risk of potential intoxication from THC.
Antipruritic Characteristics of Cannabinoids
have a powerful anti-itch effect that can combat the itchiness that comes with eczema. In a study, results indicate that cutaneous cannabinoid signalling is deeply involved in the maintenance of skin homeostasis, and its impairment may worsen several diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, pigmentation disorders, and itch. There are receptors in the skin that, when they interact with cannabinoids, could reduce the symptoms and appearance of atopic dermatitis. These effects happen through an assemblage of interactions between phytocannabinoids and the body’s cannabinoid system. The researchers found that cannabinoids elicited antipruritic (anti-itch) effects by activating CB2 receptors on the peripheral sensory nerve fibres, inhibiting the transmission of itch signals.
Cannabinoids may treat eczema through the management of Staphylococcus aureus colonisation, which is both a complication and a contributing factor of atopic dermatitis. Staphylococcus aureus is a primary bacterial human pathogen. The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) describes S. aureus as “the leading cause of skin and soft tissue infections.” The antimicrobial properties of cannabinoids have been known since the 1980s. However, a more detailed investigation of individual cannabinoids revealed that all five significant cannabinoids manifested potent activity against various S aureus strains.

Researchers in a clinical investigation demonstrated that the application of topical THC suppresses allergic contact dermatitis by triggering CB1 receptors. There are reviews of direct improvement of eczema with topical cannabinoids, such as the report which demonstrates that a molecule interacting with the endocannabinoid system prevented mast cell activation. Mast cells are immune cells that generate histamine when activated, causing severe inflammation and intense itching. These cells mediate inflammatory responses such as hypersensitivity and reactions to allergens.

Acne is a common skin condition that affects more than 9% of the population. It is thought to be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, bacteria, underlying inflammation and the overproduction of sebum, an oily secretion made by sebaceous glands in the skin. Based on recent scientific studies, CBD oil may help treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production. One test-tube study found that CBD oil prevented sebaceous gland cells from secreting excessive sebum, exerted anti-inflammatory actions and prevented the activation of “pro-acne” agents like inflammatory cytokines. Another study had similar findings, concluding that CBD may be an efficient and safe way to treat acne, thanks in part to its remarkable anti-inflammatory qualities.

How Can CBD Help With Muscle Recovery After A Workout?

1. CBD alleviates Muscle Tension.
One of the characteristic symptoms of DOMS is muscle tension. When it comes to injuries, tension in the muscles surrounding the affected area can make the pain much worse — which is why muscle relaxants are so popular for alleviating pain during recovery from exercise or injuries. Some forms of prescription muscle relaxants used for treatment-resistant muscle tension are benzodiazepine drugs like Va**um. These medications work through the GABA receptors — which are a key regulator of muscle relaxation. Benzodiazepines are powerful drugs and come with a significant risk of side-effects like sedation, depression, confusion, dizziness, and trembling — all of which are not conducive to optimal athletic function. CBD and other cannabinoids have similar effects on GABA as benzodiazepines — only without the risk of severe side-effects. Some research even suggests the use of cannabis as a supportive agent for benzodiazepine addiction due to the overlap of effects between the two. This is dangerous and requires monitoring by a doctor, of course. You should never attempt this on your own. Therefore, CBD may be a useful muscle relaxant for easing muscle tension and pain following an injury or rigorous workout.

2. CBD Alleviates Muscle Pain.
CBD is suggested to be a powerful pain-killer — as evidenced by both anecdotal and scientific research. This effect may allow CBD to offer symptomatic support for muscle injuries or post-exercise recovery. With less pain, you’ll find it easier to get yourself back into action faster, and feel more comfortable between exercise.

3. CBD Reduces Inflammation
Perhaps the most important role CBD plays in the process of muscle recovery is in reducing inflammation. The most common method of reducing inflammation after an injury or post-workout is to apply ice to the area. There’s some debate around whether or not putting icing is helpful for muscle recovery or not, and research is inconclusive — some studies suggest icing the muscles improves recovery times, while other studies have found that icing offers no benefit for shortening recovery time. The controversy revolves around what role inflammation plays during the recovery process. The inflammation process is designed to help damaged muscle fibers recover — it brings in blood flow to the area and delivers essential nutrients and oxygen along with it.
Additionally, the increased blood flow helps to clear out cellular debris, damaged proteins, and byproducts of muscle contraction like lactic acid from the area. Inflammation also stimulates stem cells (called satellite cells) in the muscle to turn into new muscle fibers.
CBD offers something even better — and may be able to reduce most of the unhelpful inflammation without compromising its benefits towards the recovery process.
CBD has been shown to inhibit a wide range of inflammatory molecules but has little effect on reducing TGF-β and IL-10. In some studies, CBD even caused an increase in IL-10.
This could explain how CBD may alleviate inflammation in the muscle tissue without compromising recovery times. The important role of IL-10 in the activation of new muscle cell differentiation could have a big impact on our ability to recover from muscle damage.

4. CBD Improves The Quality & Duration of Sleep
A few of the most important aspects of muscle recovery happen while we sleep. This is when most of our recovery processes become active.
Some of the important processes that take place while we sleep include:
Restoring damaged proteins like troponin, actin, and myosin
Removing cellular debris from damaged areas
Converting lactic acid to glucose in the liver
Stimulating the differentiation of stem cells into new muscle fibers
Sleep deprivation can pose negative effects on recovery in a few key areas:
May lead to a reduction in insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) — which we already pointed out as being one of the main triggers for differentiation of the muscle stem cells (satellite cells).
May increase cortisol levels — which has a negative impact on protein synthesis.
May cause a reduction in testosterone — which is heavily involved in the process of muscle recovery for both men and women.
A combination of CBD and THC in a pharmaceutical preparation of 1 part CBD to 1 part THC known as Sativex® has been tested repeatedly on its effect on sleep. Research has consistently shown Sativex® offers improvements on the quality of sleep, as well as the duration.
Other studies have found similar results using only CBD. Researchers in this study found that CBD was able to increase the total sleep time, as well as improve the ability to fall asleep.

Fibromyalgia is a condition characterised by chronic pain. Studies suggest that CBD may help relieve pain and inflammation, so researchers are looking into its effects on the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. For example, one 2020 review concludes that although current evidence is still limited, the emerging data suggests that cannabis can have a positive effect on Fibromyalgia. The pain-relieving effects of CBD are likely down to its effects on the brain. It may interrupt the nerve pathways that send signals of pain between the brain and the rest of the body. CBD and other cannabinoids attach to specialised receptors in a person’s brain. One of these receptors, called a CB2 receptor, plays a role in managing pain and inflammation. When CBD enters the body, it may attach to CB2 receptors, or it may cause the body to produce natural cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) that attach to these receptors. This may then result in reduced pain and inflammation. One 2016 study suggests that a lack of endocannabinoids may be at the root of chronic pain syndromes, including migraine and Fibromyalgia. Using CBD may correct this deficiency, explaining the compound’s success in alleviating chronic pain.
A 2011 study looked at 56 people with Fibromyalgia. Most of the participants were women. Members of the study comprised two groups: One group was comprised of 28 study participants who weren’t cannabis users. The second group was comprised of 28 study participants who were cannabis users. The frequency of their cannabis use, or the amount of cannabis they used, varied. Two hours after using cannabis, the cannabis users experienced benefits such as: reduced pain and stiffness.an increase in sleepiness. They also had slightly higher mental health scores than the non-users.

Arthritis is a condition that affects the body’s musculoskeletal system, mainly the joints. It’s reported that this condition is the main reason for disability among people over the age of 55 in western countries. The term Arthritis is derived from the Greek word “arthron” meaning “joint” and the Latin word t “itis” meaning “inflammation”. Arthritis is just an umbrella term referring to over 100 different types of arthritis all of which have different causes. Viruses and bacteria can infect your joints, stress and fatigue can bring about joint pain as well as old injuries, occupation, your genetics, weight or even your age. The main factor in all these reasons for causing Arthritis is inflammation around the joint and that’s where CBD comes in to play. CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory, which the body never builds a tolerance to - unlike most Pharma drugs. The human body contains a specialized system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is involved in regulating a variety of functions including sleep, appetite, pain and immune system response. The body produces Endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to Cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system. Studies have shown that CBD may help reduce chronic pain by impacting Endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters. For example, one study found that CBD injections reduced pain response to surgical incision, while another study found that oral CBD treatment significantly reduced sciatic nerve pain and inflammation. Several other studies have found that a combination of CBD and THC is effective in treating pain related to Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events. Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks, and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt. They may also have problems sleeping, such as insomnia, and find concentrating difficult. These symptoms are often severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on the person's day-to-day life. Some research suggests that taking CBD immediately after a traumatic event might make it more difficult for the brain to form the memories that may later develop and cause PTSD symptoms. A 2016 study found evidence that drugs acting on the endocannabinoid system may reduce the symptoms that a person with PTSD experiences after a memory extinction procedure. This is because the endocannabinoid system, which includes CBD receptors, can affect anxiety and memory, two factors that play a significant role in PTSD. Aversive memory extinction is a therapy process in which a person, under the guidance of a therapist, experiences similar situations to those that led to their PTSD symptoms, without any of the traumatic stimuli. Researchers are still unclear why CBD works as a treatment for PTSD. However, according to Frontiers in Neuroscience, it is possible that CBD may affect the amygdala and the hippocampus in the brain. The article notes that people with PTSD have a hyperactive amygdala, which may make symptoms worse. CBD may cause the hippocampus to grow and may reduce hyperactivity of the amygdala.

Depression causes so much more than just making us feel down and depressed. It stops of us from doing the things we love, holds back the passion in our work as well as our play time and we don’t connect with friends and family like we should. We exist rather than live a full life. Many things can cause depression; a constant worry about something out of your control, the loss of a job, a loved one or even a global pandemic can bring about a sense of panic and worry. We know first hand at Whole H**p Holistics how depression can take you from hero to zero in a matter of days and there is no quick fix. But what we do know is armed with the right tools like CBD, mindfulness and exercise (Yoga, Walking) you can manage your depression in a much healthier way.

Studies show CBD helps by acting on the brain’s receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and social behaviour. CBD has been shown to have a positive effect on serotonin levels in the brain, the same for exercise.

So, when you team up a healthy routine of exercise and CBD, with a mindful practice (meditation, cold showers) you will notice a difference in a matter of days - with better sleep, appetite and a boost in energy. These simple yet highly effective things will have a positive effect on your day.

Anxiety - A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety can cause panic attacks or even stop you from attending the very thing you are anxious about, but good news - CBD oil has shown promise as a treatment for both Depression and Anxiety. Leading many who live with these disorders to become interested in this holistic approach.

In one Brazilian study, 57 men received either oral CBD or a placebo 90 minutes before they underwent a simulated public speaking test. The researchers found that a dose of CBD was the most effective at significantly reducing anxiety during the test. Because CBD works by interacting with one of the body's own regulatory system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

Every one of us has Endocannabinoid receptors, almost everywhere in the body, it forms part of our nervous system. We find the receptors most abundantly in the brain but also in the gut, reproductive system, bones and immune cells. The ECS plays an essential role in keeping the body within a narrow range of operating conditions and controls important functions like mood, memory, stress, sleep, behaviour, appetite, pain, immune function and reproductive health. In the body we naturally produce chemical substances called Endocannabinoids which bind to the Endocannabinoid receptors and regulate all the above functions, meaning the Endocannabinoid system holds an important role in keeping us healthy and happy. CBD can also bind to these receptors and activate the ECS, thereby regulating the same functions. If this seems a bit too geeky all you need to remember is that CBD works a bit like social media. It acts everywhere and controls everything.
