SPORTS DAY - At present, we are still optimistic that sports day will go ahead although the weather is for strong gusts of wind this afternoon.
We will adjust activities if necessary.
Please ensure your child has a hoody or jumper as it may feel a bit chilly. ๐ฅถ
Congratulations to our wonderful swimmers who represented school in the gala today.
They won by an impressive margin but, equally as impressive, I got a message from the staff running the gala to say:
โWell done to all the swimmers-their behaviour and attitude was immaculate! They showed good sportsmanship throughout.โ
Final results were:
3rd Biddick Hall 12 points
2nd West Boldon 34 points
1st Hedworthlane 41 points
Another fantastic performance at the Customs House by our dancers. We had the Greatest Show and so many wonderful moves in the duets. Even more amazing when you remember that all 7 children have spent the week at Thurston. I am sure theyโll sleep tonight. You were amazing. So proud of you. ๐ ๐คฉ๐ซถ๐ป
The coach has made good time and should be here at 2.45pm
The bus has just arrived at Tebay Services. Their ETA is 3pm.
Grizedale Group had a fantastic day at Catherdral Quarry yesterday.
So proud of all our wonderful dancers who performed at the Customs House tonight and last night. They were a real credit to our school ๐คฉ๐คฉ๐คฉ
And thatโs almost it! Thurston adventures are almost over. I will be sharing updates of their expected arrival time tomorrow on Facebook and via parent pay.

Some more pictures of our Thurston bunch.
Our Mud Kitchen is finally in use! Apologies if your child is slightly muddy - they have had a really wonderful time. ๐ฅฐ
Hungry horraces after more adventures. (Some from yesterday and today).
Here are some more photos from Thurston. The staff are using the centre's waterproof cameras to capture some action shots which will all be shared with you as soon as we get them.
A happy, tired bunch tonight. Two groups have spent the day on the lakes and the third group conquered the Old Man of Coniston. Everyone is having a great time. ๐ฅฐ
Our Thurston group are having a lovely time. Theyโve done an activity this afternoon, had tea, and now are enjoying some chilled time. ๐ฅฐโฐ๏ธ๐
Our reception children decided a nice relaxing foot spa was needed to help them cool down today. It looked very tempting. ๐
The Thurston Crew have arrived safely. They are currently unpacking ready for their week of adventures.
Our Year 3 Pupils did a brilliant job in their Pedestrian Safety training session. They are learning how to cross roads safely.
Please remember sunscreen, sun hats and water bottles tomorrow.
Wonderful to see so many of our parents and carers attending the maths shared lesson this week. We hope you all had fun!
As part of Drowning Prevention Week, Martin from the RNLI came into school and talked to the children about how to stay safe at the beach and in the water. He shared the โfloat to liveโ message . He also helped them to identify a lifeguard on the beach and explained the meaning behind the different coloured flags.

It's safe to say we had lots of fun in Class 6 today creating strong frame structures. We found out that we can make structures stronger by incorporating triangular shapes and diagonal struts into the build. We then applied our new skills to find out which team could build the strongest structure.
We have just received this email from our partner school in Uganda.
"Greetings from Good Samaritan School-Uganda.
Thank you so much for the good work and other services you render at Hedworth Lane Primary School. We shall continue appreciating all your efforts to make our link and partnership a success for both schools.
Sorry for the delay to send our acknowledgement for our wonderful Donation which enabled us to get a New Computer. The school management, staff, children and the parents were very grateful for your donation. Thank you so much. You are wonderful."
Year 5 pupils had a great afternoon at Boldon School on last week when they took part in a Y5 football festival.
All of the children played well, with one team winning their pitch. Great teamwork everyone.
Rob Keeley, an award-winning author, paid a virtual visit to school this week. Rob is a successful writer of short stories and novels aimed at children and family audiences. Children from Reception and KS1 were able to listen to Rob read one of his picture books and they had great fun joining in! Children in KS2 read short stories and extracts from his texts and loved chatting to Rob about his books. Children had great fun writing and drawing characters from the stories and Rob did say that he thought there were some budding young authors in Year 5!
