The world is full of rescue dogs needing homes, and there are a lot of greyhounds included in that. Greyhounds make perfect pets, very relaxed indoors and only needing short walks, but they usually need to be on a lead outside as they have a habit of chasing anything small and furry they see.
If you are looking for a dog please consider a rescue dog, and if you are looking for a calm dog that doesn't need too much exercise a greyhound might be the perfect dog for you.

Why do dogs chew?
Biting and chewing are completely natural behaviours and are an essential part of being a dog. Dogs chew to relieve boredom, loneliness, stress, frustration and anxiety. Chewing releases endorphins and calms and comforts the dog. Dogs that are stressed, for example if they are left alone for long periods, or ones that are bored, will often find relief by chewing, and that can cause conflict. What to you is a piece of furniture, or ornament, to a dog is just something to potentially chew.

What can you do it your dog chews when it is left alone? Firstly make sure the dog gets plenty of exercise, a tired dog is a happy dog. Take them for long walks with plenty of opportunity for running around before leaving them. Chewing can be more to do with boredom than stress, a sleeping dog can't chew anything!
Secondly leave then with things they are allowed to chew, or with toys to entertain them such as snuffle toys or lick mats. There is no guaranty that they will chew what you leave out, but if you don't leave anything they have no choice.
Thirdly introduce your dog to being left along gradually, start by closing the door when you leave the room, don't let them follow you around the house. Then go out for short periods and come back in, slowly increasing how long you are out for. Don't make a big fuss when you leave and return, make going out seem normal and nothing special.

Cats like to play, but so many cat toys are nasty plasticky things that have no real appeal to cats, and are doing nothing to save the planet. We've watched cats playing, and we think the best toys are kicker toys - ones the cats can hang on to and bite while kicking with their back paws. The cat nip in our kit nip cuddle toys is so good that Ludi could smell it through the box. He was in there as soon as we opened it. The toys are filled with buckwheat husks and top quality cat nip. They are tough enough to cope with the roughest of cats, and there's nothing plastic about them at all.

Manatees are charismatic animals found in shallow, slow-moving rivers, estuaries, saltwater bays, and coastal areas. They eat aquatic plants including seagrass and freshwater vegetation. They are under threat from hunting, although they are now protected, and damage from boats. They apparently gave rise to the mermaid myth. Well, you can see why!?!
So, if you can't buy your dog a real mermaid this Christmas it's good to know you can get him a manatee.
Murray the manatee is made from recycled plastic bottles and has a ball inside, so when you dog has (inevitably) destroyed him there is another squeaky toy left to play with.

What are snuffle toys? They are toys designed to help reduce stress and boredom in dogs. You hide food in the folds of the toy, and the dog has to find it. This mimics natural feeding behaviour and stimulates the dog's brain. Snuffle toys are perfect for for dogs that struggle with separation anxiety, or who are left on their own during the day.
You can make your own - a traditional rag-rug works perfectly (but you will need to wash it occasionally).

Apparently 47% of people put up their Christmas decorations between 1-10th December. So that means that many of you will already have your tree up. But how do you stop your cat climbing the tree and knocking the decorations off?
We think distraction is key - offer them something even better to play with. How about a catnip kicker toy. We have tested this out, and our cats loved it! The natural buckwheat hull filling and the quality catnip and silver vine filling makes it impossible to resist.

Dogs love to play, it's an essential part of keeping them fit and happy. Some of the best toys are free, a stick or a ball your dog finds in the woods, but you don't really want those in the house.
Some dogs love a snuggly toy, one to cuddle up with as much as to chew, although usually they fulfil both needs. We have a fabulous range of Clean Earth cuddly dog toys.
