The Orange Tree Day Nursery: Burnaston
A beautiful day nursery set in the grounds of Toyota manufacturing site. The nursery offers a wonder
It’s safe to say we’ve had a lovely afternoon today! ☀️🫶🏼
We’ve spent a lot of the day out in the sunshine so the best way to cool off was to have a little water fight 😊
The children all had so much fun playing together with the staff.
Lots of smiles and laughter were shared 😆
What a lovely way to end the week!
Enjoy the sunshine everyone ☀️
The children in Blossoms last week had so much fun engaging in some messy play. 🎨
The children were offered bowls of different coloured gloop, and different transport vehiclesinckuding a tractor, digger and an ambulance. 🚑
They loved the freedom of chosing how to engage, something that we promote with our philosophy of child-led play. 🫶🏼
The children were encouraged to use lots of single words, and made lots of sounds during play. 💬
Happy Father’s day to all the loved ones involved in our little ones life’s 🫶🏼
We hope you’ve all had a lovely day celebrating 💙
Last week Wise owls have been learning all about animals, their habitats and what they like to eat. 🐯We have also been focusing on team work, sharing ideas and building on our play by listening to our friends and working together. 👏🏼
Today we chose to create a jungle zoo in our small world area, we thought about all of the things we learnt and created separate enclosures for the animals! 🫶🏼
The other week in Wise owls we did some gardening. 🪴We watered our tomatoes, peppers and sunflower plants. 🌻Afterwards we picked some radish. We washed the radish, chopped it and ate it. The children loved the whole process and even enjoyed eating what Peter rabbit eats. Well done Wise Owls 🫶🏼
Wise owls have had a great morning experimenting with different containers to fill and pour, they worked together to lift the heavy bottles and pour into smaller containers, working out how much water they need to fill their bottles! 💦 We used mathematical language such as heavy, fill, pour, empty, full and noticing detailed features of the containers, questioning and learning about amounts such as ml, litres and pints! 😊
Today in Wise Owls we have enjoyed playing outside in the rain. ☔️ We explored the bark and gardening area. We made very muddy cakes and smoothies. Whilst in the gardening area we picked our radishes that were ready and checked to see if our strawberries are growing. 🍓The children loved being outside in the rain and the smiles will agree. 😃
Yesterday in Blossoms, we had so much fun doing some water play. 💦
We have loved the sensory experience of the different flavoured tea bags, enjoying the colours and smells. We have also loved practicing our filling and pouring skills, and fine motor skills to pinch and pick-up the tea bags. 🫖
We have all had so much fun splashing and kicking in the water! 😊
The children in Butterflies have enjoyed using their senses to explore and finding the sea life animals today 🐬The children were exploring the orange/red bath jelly squishing it with their hands saying what they could feel whilst feeding it to the different sealife animals 🫧
Such messy fun! 😃
The Caterpillar children have loved their new song animals 🫶🏼 They were so engaged singing nursery rhymes and particularly enjoyed 5 little speckled frogs 🐸
Thank you to Ann for bringing in these knitted rhyme inspired goodies 🫶🏼
Today in Butterflies the children have been getting messy during our malleable activity where they used their gross motor skills to make marks. 🖌️The children enjoyed exploring the different colours and textures whilst using their paint brushes to create their patterns. 🌈
So much fun! 🤩

On Wednesday, a group of wise owls went on a little adventure to our secret garden! 🪴We talked about road safety and looking both ways before crossing the road and followed the trail to the secret garden. Whilst there we had our snack in the tree house, explored the woodlands, listening to the different sounds we could hear, climbing trees and then created our very own nature bracelets from natural resources that we found on the ground! 🪻We even spotted a little caterpillar crawling on a staff members coat and talked about the life cycle of a caterpillar. 🐛 What a lovely morning we all had! 🫶🏼
Today in Butterflies the children are having lots of fun finding the frozen insects. 🐞 The children used their gross motor skills to break through the ice rescuing all the insects the children used lots of descriptive words to say what they could see! 😊Lots of fun for our Butterflies on a lovely sunny day .☀️
Today in Caterpillars the children have been getting messy with the cars and paint! 🚗They have been making marks by making the cars zoom around the tuff tray! We have had so much fun! 🎨
Introducing Percy and Colin 🐹
We have two new members of the Orange Tree Family that arrived yesterday 🍊🌳
We’re all very excited to have some new nursery pets. 🫶🏼The little babies are only 9 weeks old so once settled in the children will get lots of opportunity to engage and get to know them!
We can’t wait to watch them grow 😆
The Caterpillars have been giving the babies a bath in the soapy water at nursery today! 🛁We have spoke about keeping clean and using the cloths to wipe the babies skin and hair! 🧼 We all had so much fun playing in the water 😆
The Wise Owls children all had so much fun on Friday making their Butterfly cakes! 🧁
They all helped measure out the mixture, mixing and putting it into the cake cases. We can’t beat finishing the week with a sweet treat 🫶🏼
We’ve had a lovely week talking about celebrations and Easter 🐣
This morning the Wise Owls and Butterfly children took place in an Easter Egg Hunt around the gardens 🪺 They had lots of fun searching high and low to find the eggs. All the children had the biggest smiles on their faces once finding them😄 The children did lots of team work and were very supportive of each other ensuring all of them found at least one egg! 💕
Wishing you all a lovely long Bank Holiday Weekend 🫶🏼
The Caterpillar room have been doing lots of focused activities around books recently! 📚
Take a look at the tuff trays they’ve been creating ready for the children to engage in and explore.✨
These Tuff Trays have encouraged the children to talk about the stories and ask lots of questions about everything that they can see. 🐛
They’ve all had so much fun 🫶🏼

Today our wise owl children have enjoyed taking a trip to our woodland area. Before we left nursery we talked about the importance of keeping each other safe on the walk to the woodland by holding each others hands.
When we got to the woodland area we took part in a fun scavenger hunt looking for different insects and leaves to mark off our list. The children also enjoyed finding lots of twigs and making dens for everyone to sit in. We talked about different textures and and what noises we could hear while in the woodland.🪵🌳
