Only one week to go!

I always think that September is a bit like a 'light January'.

We've been holiday, had a good time switching off and being out of routine. Things like eating well and exercising go out the window, especially if the kids are at home.

I always feel like I need to get back into health and drop a few pound to feel less 'soft'!

I recent met a client who was struggling with losing weight in midlife.
She tried everything and felt deflated and frustrated.

In addition to this, work was very demanding, family life was non-stop and she was juggling everyone else's needs before her own.

In short - she was overwhelmed!

If I had given her a list of dos and don't health and exercise wise - would that help?

In my opinion, no. It would only add overload to her already exhausted brain and body.

She would probably do none of them, and then feel like a failure.

This would compound her struggles and add nothing to her health and wellbeing.

My advice was - CHANGE ONE THING.

We chose: getting more active as she has a sedentary job - 8k steps everyday.
Why not 10K?
She is currently doing between 2k and 5k a day, so 10k would be unachievable.

Nothing else was suggested, this is our focus.

Win at one thing - build a lifetime habit.

I understand women. What we need, how we think, and how to make positive changes, without piling on the pressure.

God I love a holiday!

But as the Summer season starts it can be overwhelming if you are juggling work, home and a family with kids off school.

Things will slide - your exercise routine may change and have to take a back seat for a couple of weeks.

Don't panic, don't stress - enjoy your time and go with the flow.

Control what you can control. Make these good habits your focus:
πŸ’œ Drink water 2 litres
πŸ’œ Get the steps in
πŸ’œ Sleep!
πŸ’œ Get outside

All still achievable in the summer - and these will have a massive effect on your mental health and where you start from in September.

GOALS! Fingers crossed for plenty of them tomorrow evening!

I work with people to help them meet their goals. These are targets that are personal to them.

Sometimes they are 'outcome' goals like these:
πŸŽ– Improve my technique when lifting weights
πŸŽ– Strengthen my core to help my running
πŸŽ– Lose weight
πŸŽ– Build more visible muscle

Sometimes they are process goals like these:
πŸŽ– Find a love of moving my body
πŸŽ– Spend time doing something for me

It is worth spending time deciding on your goal - pick something.

It could be wear that dress you like, but it's snug, do 10 full press ups, bend down easily or to feel less stiff in the morning.

It doesn't have to be big and monumental - as long as it's personal to you and means something. A goal that you can focus on and focus your activity and nutrition on.

Hi! I'm Lindsey!

If you are new to my page, let me introduce myself. Here some stuff about me....

1. Age? 46 (ouch)

2. Hometown? I was brought up in East Devon and moved to Cheltenham when I was twenty-one. I am now living in Chiddingfold, Surrey, and have been here for 16 years.

3. Previous jobs? Waitress (not very good), Nanny to children who are now scarily grown up and real adults. Teacher.

4. Family? I live with my husband and we have a 10 year old boy. My mum, brother, sister-in-law, nieces, nephew and other relatives live in Devon. Sadly lost my Dad 5 years ago.

5. Fitness industry work? I've been in the fitness industry, one way or another, since I was the age of 19. I've done most things, from bog standard fitness instructor to qualification tutor. All enjoyable in different ways and valuable experience.

6. Biggest regret? I thought I'd have more than one child (even though my son is a little legend) Although I've made peace with it, it still niggles at me sometimes. It was out of my control, so I move on.

7. Biggest achievement? Happy family and trying to make a difference to the people I see. Nothing ground breaking I guess.

8. Dreams? Live somewhere warm (I like the sun), being outdoors and spending time with my little family and the dog. Enough money to do what I want to.

9. Favourite food? Chocolate of course!
