Warning as thieves target keyless vehicles 23/05/2024

Car crime remains a pressing problem in the UK โ€“ alarmingly, one
car is stolen every ten minutes.

A warning about thieves targeting key-less vehicles has been issued by Northamptonshire Police following recent incidents in the region.

Keyless car theft or 'relay theft' is when a device is used to fool the car into thinking the key is close by.

Did You Know the whole process can take as little as 60 seconds and can be completed in near silence.

๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/protectyourcar

To avoid keyless car theft remember DISTANCE, SIGNAL, STEERING WHEEL.

KEEP KEYS A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE CAR: Keeping keys far away from doors and windows. This will minimise the chances a thief will be able to find and amplify the keyโ€™s signal and is general good practice.

BLOCK OR TURN OFF THE SIGNAL: Consider purchasing a Faraday pouch to keep your car key in. These pouches contain signal-blocking materials that stop your key transmitting its code, preventing crooks from being able to detect and amplify the signal. Check your manual or speak to your dealer to find out if your key can be switched off

STEERING WHEEL LOCK: Consider using a steering wheel lock, a driveway parking post, or even a wheel clamp

Warning as thieves target keyless vehicles Police are issuing a warning following multiple thefts of keyless vehicles across the region.

A FREE road safety event will be held at Northampton's Abington Park, between 10am-2pm this Saturday (May 18).
The event has been organised by Northamptonshire Roads Policing officer PC Emilie Bunkall to promote road safety on the county's roads as part of this year's

Following the success of the inaugural event in 2023, this yearโ€™s community event is expected to be bigger and better with more interactive road safety activities for visitors to get involved with including the Road Haulage Association simulator and Wickes safety truck.

The Safer Roads Team will have one of its enforcement safety camera vans in situ for people to check their running speeds, while visitors can test reactions on a Batak machine as well as feel the sensation of the effects of alcohol and sleep deprivation through beer goggles.

As part of Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance we will also be lending our support on the day, with a crew from The Mounts Fire Station providing road safety advice. Please come over and chat with our firefighters and get up close to one of our fire engines.

(Please note while we aim to have our crew there throughout the event, they may have to leave if needed).
