Chorley Council condemns the Secretary of Stateβs intention to bypass local planning committee.
The Secretary of State, Michael Gove MP announced on 19 December that Chorley Council has been designated in relation to performance in major planning applications, which he considers have had too many applications refused by Chorleyβs Planning Committee.
Chorley Council is appalled by the decision, which ignores the numerous meetings held and letters sent over years from Chorley Council and the MP for Chorley, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to explain to the government the negative impact that their changes to the planning rules have had on the borough.
Under designation, eligible major planning applications can, if the applicant chooses, be made directly to the Secretary of State at which point the Planning Inspectorate will handle the applications on their behalf. This would bypass the local democratically elected decision-making powers of the Chorley Planning Committee.
Councillors and the MP for Chorley have met with the Minister and his officials to urge him to rethink his decision.
More information can be found at www.chorley.gov.uk/designation and we will share updates when we have them.
Ouch!
π¦· *Tory Dentist Nightmare* π¦·
Under the Tories, NHS dentistry is in decline. Millions of people are unable to get the appointments they need, 1 in 10 are attempting their own DIY dentistry, and tooth decay is the most common reason for children aged 6-10 to be admitted to hospital.
Labour will stop this dental nightmare, providing an extra 700,000 urgent dental appointments and shifting the focus to prevention of tooth decay.

We have more than 2,600 grit bins in key locations across the county.
βοΈ Use the grit sparingly and only on the road or pavement in the area where the grit bin is located (β not on private driveways).
Using the grit for other purposes could lead to unnecessary risks to other people if the grit runs out: http://bit.ly/LCCgritbin.

Today is Fuel Poverty Awareness day which marks two years since the energy crisis first began.
We're working to support households across Chorley who are struggling due to the cost of living.
One way we are doing this is by offering residents help to reduce their energy bills by improving energy efficiency in their homes.
Weβre offering home visits from one of our team to complete a questionnaire which will assess your properties energy efficiency and to give free guidance and support on improving this.

Today is and the start of 16 days of activism to end the violence against women and girls.
Violence against women and girls can happen anywhere and takes many forms - from sexist jokes online to harassing behaviours on public transport. These all contribute towards creating a culture of fear and misogyny that encourages violence and abuse against women.
We are committed to ending all gender-based violence.
