Getting the spuds dug fresh from the land! A nice crop of Ballydoons coming up the harvester this evening, these spuds were topped midweek to allow for easier harvesting! #ComberEarlies #newseason #eatlocal #fresh
Remember these???? This afternoon we took the time to go through some of our Dunbar Standard potatoes, this is known as moulding them up. We do this to push more soil around the spuds to eliminate green potatoes. This in turn helps the soil move about which is a good idea to promote growth. Another amazing bonus is that this breaks the crust and will let some much needed moisture down into the ground when it rains. The crop is looking well and starting to thrive now.
Ploughing our last field for potatoes, hopefully its well enough ploughed to please the boss man (dad) or I’ll get the sack. 🤣
This weekend seen us planting Arran Victory (Blues), Red Rooster and our flagship variety Dunbar Standards. That’s us trying to get the main crop in now, we have half of our spuds planted and hopefully this week will see us finish off planting. Finishing out with Dunbar Standards, Navans, Golden Wonder and Pentland Squires.
