We have had a few questions over the past number of weeks about our role in meetings. The SEND Information Advice and Support Service (IASS) minimum standards states

'The IASS provides advocacy support for individual children, young people, and parents that empowers them to express their views and wishes and helps them to understand and exercise their rights in matters including exclusion, complaints, SEND processes, and SEND appeals.'

The word advocacy used here is not used in the traditional or statutory sense. The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) uses the Mind definition of advocacy which states

'Advocacy means getting support from another person to help you express your views and wishes and help you understand and exercise your rights.'

For more information on SENDIASS minimum standards and the relating definition of advocacy, please follow the link below

Update on our summer term information sessions

All sessions are now FULLY BOOKED!

For the summer term we have
• Added a new session - Draft to Final EHCP
• Increased capacity of our online sessions

We understand these sessions are in high demand.

We are restricted in the number of sessions we are able to deliver each term due to capacity within the team as our training offer (which includes our information sessions) is only a small part of our total offer.

We have to limit the number of places available each session due to due to room capacity within our offices and to ensure as parents and carers you receive the best quality of information and advice to your situation within these sessions.

At current these session on average have a below 50% attendance rate. We politely ask if you are unable to attend or wish to cancel your place, please get in touch with us at [email protected] or 01482 647541 or cancel through Eventbrite as soon as you can. This way we are then able to start operating a waiting list, whereby these spaces can be offered out to other parents.

Thank you from the whole Hull SENDIASS Team.
