Let's look another kind of lyrical style: the mysterious lyric! I love lyrics that make perfect sense and allow me to follow a clear narrative, but I equally (sometimes even more) like the opposite: fluid and abstract lyrics that hypnotise with their openness to interpretation.
This is not to be confused with an unpolished stream of consciousness that is difficult to follow! When an abstract and mysterious lyric *works*, it's usually because it functions in perfect synergy with the soundscape and vocal delivery style, and has a very particular feeling expressed in the words. There is something really profound underneath the cryptic nature of the words, and you slowly peel back the layers to uncover it.

I love songs and artists with a piercingly unique lyrical voice. This is one of my favourite songs by Nick Cave which demonstrates how significant and emotionally penetrating well-crafted lyrics can be. Cave's signature lyrical voice is profound and poetic yet simple and achingly relatable.

To me, this is a clear example of a lyric-driven song.
