ManSEDS Rocketry
The ManSEDS Rocketry project is all about introducing students to the fundamentals of High Power Rocketry.
Members are taught a variety of skills such as 3D modelling, Electronics and Rocket simulations with no previous knowledge being required.
Hello everyone!
We’re meeting tomorrow 13:00-15:00 in MECD Room A_1A_010!
Make sure to have your preferable CAD Software up and ready, as we’ll be continuing the CAD session from last week, but this time we’ll be modelling your fins and centre-rings!
We’re slowly approaching the end of Introductory sessions, so in the following days/weeks make sure that your OpenRocket simulations are efficient and your CAD models appropriate. When you’ve got that done, please send the .stl and .ork files to either me or Ethan, preferably saved as YourName_YourSurname.stl/ork. We’ll do a quick check, and if your designs are competent, we’ll start the 3D printing and building process.
Remember to bring a mouse!
It’s still hard to predict when exactly that will happen, as we’re waiting for workshop spaces, but an estimate would be around 2 to 3 weeks before we start the first builds, so you’ve still got time to finalise and master everything!
If you are facing any problems, or got any questions, do not hesitate to let us know!
See you tomorrow!
Hi everyone!
This week we’ll be meeting in MECD room A_2A.008 from 13:00-15:00 on Friday 22nd of Oct.
Hopefully, all of your OpenRocket simulations are running smoothly, and initial models have been set, as this week’s session will be highly dependent on those designs.
If your simulation still doesn’t look right/you don’t know what to do – message either me or ASAP, so that we can get back and help you before tomorrow.
For tomorrow, you’ll also need to instal either SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or any CAD software you’re comfortable with.
If you’re using Windows, contact us personally in order to set up and download SolidWorks.
If you’re using MacOS and do not have a bootcamp set up, you’ll need to install either Fusion 360 or AutoCAD – these can be accessed via this link: https://www.autodesk.co.uk/campaigns/education/fusion-360 - you’ll need to click ‘Get Fusion 360’, then your OS and ‘Get Started’ with any software you want to use, then set up an account and set up a student profile, where you’ll need to provide info such as your name, surname, name of the University etc. After that, the system should automatically connect your profile to UoM and you should be able to download the software provided.
It’s worth noting that the same method can be used for Windows users in case SolidWorks doesn’t want to run.
Make sure that you’ve got either of these three installed by tomorrow and bring your laptop along, as we’ll be modelling fins/nosecones meant to go onto your rocket. It’s also easier if you bring a mouse with you, as CAD is much easier without having to use a touchpad – we’ll try and bring some with us, but we cannot ensure one for everyone.
If you’ve got any questions or are facing issues, do not hesitate to message us!
We’ll see you tomorrow!

Hello everyone!
As you know, Rocketry meeting is happening tomorrow 1200-1500 – with the place being MECD room 1A.035.
This session we’ll be covering the basics of CAD using SolidWorks/Fusion360/AutoCad as well as advancing further in OpenRocket simulations – these skills will be crucial for Level 1 Certifications as well as progressing into other, more advanced projects we’ll be covering later this semester and academic year – so please make sure to attend whenever possible.
As per previous post, the meeting has been made long enough for everyone to drop in whenever they’re free – do not be afraid of being late, as long as you’re in the timeframe we’ll be sure to help and assist you!
See you tomorrow!
Hi everyone!
Just a friendly reminder that ManSEDS Rocketry is still waiting for your availability via the poll below!

The voting will stay until Today at 11:59 pm, and after that, we will announce the date and time of our weekly meetings that suits our society and its members the most.
We are aware that the chosen date might not fit everyone’s schedule. We still highly advise you to attend whenever possible, but we understand that sometimes it is just not possible. Therefore, after each meeting, a briefing document will be posted with the material covered during the session.
Thank you so much to everyone who already participated!
See you later this week!
Hello, Rocketeers!
Thank you all so much for attending the first Rocketry meeting last week.
We want to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the meeting time overlapping with lectures on Wednesday afternoon - we were under the impression that this time would be kept free for societies.
Please answer the following poll to help us find the best time for our weekly meetings.
Thank you, and see you at the next one!

They say sky is the limit, you keep on proving them wrong.
With that being said, ManSEDS Rocketry would like to thank everyone attending today’s meeting! You are what is driving Rocketry forward, and we couldn’t be happier with where we’re heading.
If you’ve missed it, don’t worry! Your interest and passion are the most important. We’re attaching the presentation so all can take another look/make up their minds about which project to join/catch up with what we’ve been up to.

We cannot wait to see you there!
And remember: per aspera ad astra.
Hey guys, we are really sad to announce that due to the current situation, we have to cancel all rocketry meetings in foreseeable future.
It is the universities advice that all society activity should be put on hold for the remainder of the academic year. While this is very sad we want to make sure everyone is as safe as possible and will therefore comply with this advice.
Luckily our Competition team finished their competition rocket in advance beforehand so we should still be able to take part in the UKSEDS rocketry championship.
We hope all of you stay safe and healthy and that we get to build rockets again once this is over.
Fantastic day launching with the Manchester CanSat Project crew!
Reminder:
There will be volunteering opportunities in the University of Manchester and Warrington on the 9th of March and the 12th of March respectively. If anyone is interested, please fill in the form below. Thank you!

What better Christmas activity than building some rockets with the Manchester CanSat Project Team.
We are happy to announce that MANSEDS Rocketry has started manufacturing for our first Sounding Rocket Test Systems.
To keep our costs low and allow for quick prototyping and adaptability we use additive manufacturing. This gives members a chance to become more familiar with the systems they have designed and allows for faster testing speeds.
