Absolutely..
Genuinely brilliant man.... a wonderful evening.....
I'm very excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for my 30th annual Oxford Summer Piano Series. Not only will this be the 30th consecutive season of my summer concerts in the university city of Oxford (beginning back in 1988 when Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan were both still in office and Stefan Edberg and Steffi Graf were the Wimbledon champions!) but I will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of my first public concert at the historic Holywell Music Room, Europe's oldest purpose-built concert hall and the home for all my Oxford concerts over the last four decades, situated as it is in the very heart of this beautiful university city.
The eight concerts that make up my 2017 Oxford Summer Piano Series include evenings devoted to Beethoven (the Pathétique, Moonlight and Appassionata Sonatas plus the terrific Eroica variations), two evenings of Chopin (following his extraordinary life from Poland to France and Britain, and including both of his wonderful piano sonatas), two evenings of Gershwin (a concert biography and a second programme highlighting his extraordinary virtuoso piano skills), and an unusual programme dedicated to two 19th century legends of the keyboard, Liszt and Alkan, including two blockbuster piano works, the six composer Hexaméron (written by Liszt, Chopin et al) and the rarely played Alkan Concerto for solo piano, one of the most extraordinary piano works of the 19th century. Another programme will celebrate 40 years of my concerts at the Holywell Music Room (which began in 1977, the year Björn Borg and Virginia Wade were Wimbledon champions!) with a collection of music drawn from four decades of concerts, by Bach, Schubert, Chopin, Alkan, Debussy, Gershwin, myself, and my contemporary the English composer Lionel Sainsbury. As always, my series will conclude with an evening largely devoted to audience requests.
Tickets are on sale both from my website (www.jackgibbons.com/oxfordconcerts.htm) and from Tickets Oxford at the Oxford Playhouse (phone 01865 305305 or visit bit.ly/Gibbons2017SummerPianoSeries). Tickets purchased in advance receive a 20% discount and a subscription ticket for all 8 concerts will give you a 60% reduction in the ticket price!
More details of my 2017 Oxford Summer Piano Series can be found via this online brochure:http://jackgibbons.com/Gibbons_Oxford_Summer_Piano_Series_2017.pdf
I very much hope you can join me for my summer of music and celebration in Oxford. For those who can't be there in person I will be posting videos and music related to my concerts on my page.
