We are delighted to announce that the Ayrshire Walking and Wheeling Festival will be taking place in September 2024. ๐ถ๐ฉโ๐ฆฝ From 20th - 29th September there will be a variety of walking opportunities on offer right across the Ayrshires. Walk hosts have been busy planning their activities and the festival looks set to have a great selection of health walks, special interest walks and more strenuous walks, so something for everyone!! The Trinity Active Travel Hub supported by Paths for All will be working with a number of other organisations to make this a fantastic walking and wheeling event for everyone. Save the dates for your diary and watch this space!

On our Parkinsonโs group walk yesterday morning near to South Stainley.
This group is growing in number, as walking with poles has been shown to help those with mild symptoms of Parkinsonโs.
Encouraging our members to plant the poles in a particular way whilst applying force and utilising a wider range of movement, coupled with the cognitive challenge of co-ordinating the activity, all help to promote balance, better posture, and confidence. Weโve definitely noticed improvements over time in these areas - as have the partners of those with Parkinsonโs who join them on the walks. Great to see such determination having an observable effect.

Yesterday's Nordic Walking session was all about the cardio! A longer walk than usual but interspersed with some pulse raisers. A great way to keep your heart and lungs healthy without impacting on the joints.

Well, we have certainly had some WEATHER over the past week or so!
And one of the questions we most frequently get asked is "Do you walk in the rain?"
Ahem! We most certainly do. Providing it is safe to do so our decicated, enthusiastic, and not mention hard-core instructors go out in all weathers so that you can maintain your fitness programmes and stick to those healthy exercise habits!
There are some amazing benefits to be had from walking in the rain too...
- the air is scientifically proven to be cleaner and fresher
- the smell of rain has a calming effect due to the aroma of petrichor
- the humidity is good for your skin and health
- walks in rainy weather burn more calories
- walks in the rain help you see things with a different perspective
- it feels rebellious!
So here's just a few of our "rebellious" groups donning their sexy raincoats and heading out for a Nordic Walk!
