Just Me and Lilley

Just Me and Lilley

My name is Patricia Faulks. My dog is Lilley. I’m ageing and childless. Let’s talk openly, honestly.. I don’t have children and I don’t have a family.

I just have Lilley. I campaign to raise awareness of people living without children, shining a light on the millions of people who are often left out, isolated and forgotten. There are thought to be four million people over the age of 50 in the UK who are not parents. There are more and more of us in society, but we are rarely heard or understood. No matter your age, no matter the reason, if you are childless or you’d like to support people who are, you are very welcome here.

Are We Mums or Are We Childless latest blog from justmeandlilley.co.uk

The recent flurry of gold medal winning Mums at the Olympics send BBC presenters into a mild frenzy. Fair enough, say we. But sometimes non mums win medals too!

Check out new blog post from www.justmeandlilley.co.uk (finally!) called:

ALONE AND AGEING!(And we Moved House)WE MUST BE MAD!

Ageing, particularly without children/childless, is not necessarily hard. It's not always easy. But it can be scary. Sometimes it's scary.

When crisis hits (Covid for e.g.) families gather - together. Naturally. But where does (indeed 'did') that leave we ageing and childless folk?

Beggared, for want of another word, to be honest. Your ageing friends will turn immediately to family, albeit via zoom support. No one can blame them. Who wouldn't? But why aren't we ageing, childless people being shoehorned into the social services/NHS equation? I found local 'support' charities forgetting all about folk like me during the pandemic. For many months I was on my own with my dog. No one, except some excellent younger friends who didn't always live locally, but supported via online networks, gave a tinker's cuss.

Now, back in the present, I do believe we're close to being totally sidelined. In favour of government 'breeding' requirements. Too many oldies, you see? Dammit, we're living for too long. Most of we 'oldies' thought that was the plan? But, reactive as per, they ignore those of us ageing without children.

So, finally, here's my latest take on it on www.justmeandlilley.co.uk blog. I know, I know - it's been a very, very long time since the last one. I've been a bit busy. Anyway, take a peep. Wonderful wander along bank yesterday for me and her. A lot of landscape to take in (and wrong camera) but here’s a couple including ‘did my best’ shot of a (I think) white tailed tern making a hell of a noise. Also saw a greedy, young heron and it’s mum arriving with supper. Bliss!

Don't ask for my Next of Kin! 17/05/2024

Excellent piece by Penny Shepherd of Ageing Without Children, AWOC UK. Regarding those of us who are without family or without next of kin. Particularly if a person is ageing without children. An eye opener for some. A welcome relief for many.

Don't ask for my Next of Kin! Organisations must update their approach to emergency contact details, says Penny Shepherd, of AWOC East KentWhether on official forms or elsewhere, being asked for your “next of kin” is often problematic for AWOCs.“When people ask me to record my next of kin, I write ‘None’ and they can t...

This is a honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions. Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions.
It’s spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don’t spray for w**ds until you see the blackberries blooming.
In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until middle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve?!
