Appleby Gardens
We are a family-owned garden design and maintenance business operating in South West London and West Kent.
Our clients range from property management companies and home owners to schools and doctors surgeries. We offer regular maintenance schedules or will happily undertake a one off tidy up. We also specialise in designing borders and providing seasonal colour updates for pots and hanging baskets.
Fleeting Beauties - I tend to favour plants with long seasons of interest but on occasion my breath is taken away by plants who only shine briefly and today there were two! Irises (I think this is Jane Phillips but not 100% sure) and Peonies (again not 100% but may be Karl Rosenfield) - you don’t want loads of these if you have a smaller garden but if you have a space in full sun - go for it!
In praise of Crab Apples - if you have room in your garden for only one tree, or you feel like adding another, then this is the tree for you! Beautiful pink buds opening to frothy white flowers that are a magnet for bees. Gorgeous autumn colour and stunning red or yellow crab apples that last for ages. And any neighbours with an apple tree will thank you for helping to pollinate them! A great specimen is Malus Evereste.
Eranthis hyemalis (winter aconite) is a fantastic early source of nectar for the bees - there were so many this morning!
