Strumpshaw Fen Old Steam Pump.

We get to work on some absolute gems, in some stunning remote locations.
In winter 2021-22, The spillway collapsed outwards under positive pressure due to a very high surge tide, flooding the area around the pumping station 2times a day at high tide.
GTRP won the competitive tender.
GTRP had to constantly maintain flood protection whilst repairing the damaged spill way.
We re-braced the 2.5m deep spillway and removed all the existing silt. Infilled with type 3 to below the existing pipe level, carried out stitching and replaced areas of brickwork, installed a concrete and brick header wall, raised the brick work to contain future surge tide events, supplied and installed 400m galvanised outfall extension pipe then back filled inside the spillway with type4 to existing ground level

Last week we decommissioned our old rock barge ‘JMC9’.
My father’s company, John Martin Construction Ltd, bought here in about 1989-90, Bam Nuttall took over ownership from 2000-2014. Then we bought her back.

Her dimensions were
45m x 9m x 2.5m weight approx 230-250 tons

Sadly she had warn very thin and would have cost a small fortune to re-plate her.

Big thank you to Jo Williams Demolition.

Please feel free to look at more pictures, of her working in the broads for us over the past few years, we have posted in this thread

Working back on my old stomping ground where I grew up and lived for 30 years.
Installing sheet piled wing walls to the original sluice. Last time I saw the lake drained like this I was about 7-8 years old over 40 years ago.
Brought back a lot of great memories of playing, hiding, shooting etc there, as well as in my late teens repairing the dam with my father on a New Year’s Day after a night on the smash, ….. the old timber piles are still there.
