IMUK: Transition to Independent Midwifery – from the home of IM practice.

For transition to Independent Midwifery.

IMUK hold workshops around 4-5 times throughout the year, in different parts of the country – where needs lie. Recently, we have been to London, Birmingham, Shrewsbury and Manchester.

IMUK is the home of Independent Midwifery – our members have been living and breathing Independent Midwifery for many years. Our members, who will facilitate your workshop have been NHS midwives and have also moved directly to IM from being a students – we try to offer as much variation and wisdom as possible.

We hold these workshops, so you can decide if IM practice is for you. Your client base will be different, their needs are different, working as an IM is different. Attending our workshop will give you the information you need to decide if IM working really is for you.

We keep workshops to less than 7 delegates, as we know you will have a lot of questions and we want you to leave with the information you need. We give you the latest information on Independent Practice, as we know it. We follow a guide – which you receive prior to the workshop, but we want this to be about YOU and YOUR needs.

We encourage student participation and welcome applications to those who are in or about to begin your 3rd year, this is where you will gain the most and have the information to choose where and how you will practise in the future.

During the workshop we offer refreshments throughout and a buffet lunch. This is usually a working lunch as we know you want to ask us about our experiences and ask more questions.

We ask that all prospective IMUK members attend one of these workshops – to become a member of IMUK, but this does not mean you have to join. You will receive a workbook that will have pretty much everything you need to set up your business – except the support you can receive as an IMUK member.

To achieve our “Good Standing”. To achieve this we hold supervisory “Huddles” for discussions and peer review of our notes. Support from experienced actual Independent Midwives!

- DBS (from 6 months membership)

- Safeguarding level 3 – info given where you can attend

- Obstetric Emergencies – we recommend BabyLifeline

- Equipment Checks – Are available at our AGM

- Mentor – One to one buddy system – there if you choose to utilise

- PMA support – we have two PMA’s ready to support.

To join IMUK for 6 months or 24 weeks:

£160 Workshop fee (£100 for students/unwaged)

£100 one of admin fee to join IMUK

Monthly fee (£30pcm) for first 6 months or £180 (if paid in advance) (£33pcm from 6 months onwards) or £180.

Total: £440 for 6 months (less for students & unwaged)
