As most early mornings in the summer, I was gardening and looking after my vegetables.

While watering the beautiful red poppy’s, I had flashbacks of this beautiful painting I seen last week.

Isn’t it gorgeous?

The vibrant colours in this painting (by Shara Hughes) caught my eye straight away!
So inspiring when you spot a piece of art like this.

When in Denmark, go and visit the Louisiana Art Centre for inspiration.
You won’t be disappointed!

Here are a few photos of some more art pieces I seen that afternoon.

Sadly, I ran out of time to visit the DAC (Danish Architecture Centre).
Hopefully next time 🤞

What inspires you?

Do you like Scandi Interiors?
I LOVE it 😍

Last week in was in ‘interior heaven’ (if that’s even a word 😂) while scanning the shops in Denmark and Sweden.

Why did I only carry hand luggage?, was going through my mind 😱

So instead, I took a lot photos (not quite the same, I know😏)

Here’s a selection of some of my favourites.
A mix of neutral colours and colourful accessories.

First poppy of this year.
Look at that gorgeous red colour ❤️

Looking around my garden, I’m starting to see colour everywhere.

I simply love this time of year and find flowers very inspiring.

Where do you get your colour inspiration from?
And what colours do you like?

Yay, it’s Sunday and today’s post is inspired by the beautiful blue skies in sunny Somerset.

Did you know that research has shown blue to be the world’s favourite colour?

What do you associate the colour blue with?
It reminds me of the sea, blue skies and pastel beach huts.
Theres me thinking out loud, I need a beach holiday right now? 🏖🤔LOL

Anyway, let’s dive in and look at the meaning of the colour blue.

Blue is the colour of serenity, tranquillity, pureness, focus, concentration, honesty and is mentally calming.

With so many tones of blue, there is a blue for everyone when it comes to your interiors.

Dark blue has a calming effect on interiors and would make a good choice for bedrooms, bathrooms, and a home office.
However, avoid too much blue in areas for entertainment.
It may come across as slightly lifeless and dull.

Light blue would make a great choice to inspire creativity.
For example, a home-based studio would be a perfect choice.
Light blue can also be a good choice for a bedroom, it is mentally soothing. Just be aware when using a monochromatic blue scheme to use lots of different shades & tones and use patterns and textures to avoid the room looking flat.

Have you ever used blue in your home?

When home staging a property, don’t we just LOVE beautiful cushions.

Cushions are a very important part of home staging & styling.

But wait…

Our job as a stager is so much more than just fluffing cushions all day

That’s right! It’s only a small part of what we do.

However, the secret is getting the RIGHT cushions.

So, here are 3 things you may want to consider when choosing cushions for staging:

1. Cushion filling
2. How to style
3. Colour and pattern

During my colour consultancy course I learned more about the psychology of colour in depth.

I was hooked!

I have always loved colour and learning more on why we like, dislike, and the impact colour has on our daily lives fascinates me.

So let's start the week with some colour inspiration and discover the meaning behind the colour Yellow.

Yellow is the colour of happiness, optimism, joy, health and energy.

With so many tones of yellow, there is a yellow for everyone when it comes to your interiors.

With more of us working from home, yellow is a great choice for a home-based office as it can stimulate mental activity.

Also, hallways, kitchens or north-facing rooms will benefit from yellow.
It is cheerful, creates a friendly welcome, and brings joy.

What do you associate the colour yellow with?
It reminds me of the sun shining, daffodils, and the feeling of happiness.

I love personally yellow. Are you a fan?

I LOVE working on a room makeover 💛🖤

This transformation was done a few years ago but is still one of my favourite projects.

This outdated and dark living room got transformed into a modern and light room to enjoy the beautiful views of the garden.

I added splashes of colour and lots plants to bring the outside indoors.

MOODBOARD MONDAY - Garden Room Interiors

Last Monday I showed you the concept board for the exterior of the garden room.
This week I am excited to reveal the mood board for the interiors.

A beautiful, simple colour palette was chosen to compliment the natural flooring, decking and the outdoors.

Still, there was plenty of room for a personality injection with cushions, wall art, and plants.

MOODBOARD MONDAY - Concept board for a Garden Room

Ok, I will hold my hands up 🙌

This was meant to be posted a while ago, various moodboards and photos of recent projects.

But here it is, the first one of many, a concept board of my (exterior) Garden Room we built last Autumn.

Set in beautiful surroundings, I wanted to keep the outside of this building connected to nature.

The main goal was to use as many natural materials and colours as possible.

Plus, add a matching decking area for a small bistro set.
That way I can enjoy the views from the inside and outside all year round.

And, of course, Lola 🐶 loves lying on the decking too while keeping an eye on the birds 😂

A concept board is a great starting point and clarifies your vision for any new project.

I will present the moodboard for the interiors of this beautiful space next week.

HOME STAGING TIP - Kerb Appeal

When selling your home, kerb appeal often gets overlooked.

You see, first impressions are vital.

Did you know sometimes a buyer may check out your property first with a drive-buy?
If the outside does not look presentable, they may not book a viewing.

So what can you do to raise your property’s kerb appeal?

1) Refresh your front door.
If the door needs replacing or repainting, make sure to get that done.

2) A well-kept garden/driveway.
Cut the grass and tidy the garden and driveway. A beautiful garden created a great first impression and will increase your home’s value.

3) Clean your windows.
Clean them on both sides and remove clutter from the windowsills. Not only do clean windows look more attractive, they also allow more light in

4) Clean the pathway.
Simply jet wash your path, check no paving slabs are broken and no weeds are sprouting.

5) Refresh your gates.
A lick of paint will do the trick. Ensure you choose a colour that fits in with the rest of your home.

6) Fix damaged gutters and roofing.
Homeowners often loose the sale due to having a damaged roof.

Happy selling 🏡

I love those paint samples from Lick Paint. Just peel-and-stick!

No need for samples pots, no marks or mess on the wall and a 100% accurate colour match

Just look at their amazing colour selection
💜💚💛🤎🤍🖤💙❤️🧡

As a colour consultant I like to try and test as many paints before recommending those clients.

The beauty of these samples is, it allows you to move them around the room and at different times of the day.
All so important when choosing the right paint colour.

Can’t wait to get painting 😁

Bedroom - Before & After
I love room makeovers and the satisfaction to see the room come together during the process.

This master bedroom and en-suite shower room were in desperate need of a makeover.

New carpets, fitted wardrobes, paneling, and a new bathroom made it bring to life.

Mood Board Inspiration🌞

This morning I was sitting in the garden, while sipping on a coffee and enjoying the warmth of the sun breaking through.

Today’s mood board is inspired by the sun and the beautiful, but hot 🔥, weather this week.

I love the wallpaper, called ‘Flamingo in the sun’ from , and so is the Sundance rug. The gorgeous paprika chair

Enjoy another sunny day 😎

Taking a little break from the computer in the shade 😎 with a cold drink and book

Wow, it is hot today in Somerset 🔥, but not complaining!

I have had this book for a while but reading it for the next Book Club event with the Hubinsiders

What is your favourite or recommended Interior Design book?

I have a growing collection but there always room for more 📚😂

Keep cool everyone and have a great day 🌞

Huray, the sun is out 😎

One of the colour trends earlier this year was grey and yellow.

I created this board during my Colour Consultancy Course.

One of the things I loved from the course was to learn more about the psychology of colour.

Did you know that colour can effect your mood?
Some colours are better for used in certain areas of the house than others?

As a colour consultant we can help you choose colours and explain how it can effect the feel of a room.

Let’s take a look at yellow 💛

Yellow is the colour of happiness, health, optimism and energy.

With more of us working from home, yellow is a great choice for a home-based office as it can stimulate mental activity.

Also, hallways, kitchens or north-facing room will benefit from yellow, as it creates a friendly welcome.

Bet avoided in bedrooms though, especially for babies as yellow can result in restless sleep.

One of my favourite books on colour psychology it The Little Book of Colour, by Karen Haller.

The book may be small but it is packed with information and everything you want to know about colour.

Today was a day to improvise, but it wasn’t all that bad.

I’m building an additional gardenroom to the already approved planning for an office/outbuilding.

Huray, my own outdoor space 🥳 And quite frankly, I can not wait!

Yesterday however, I found out that the materials are delayed, the electrician can’t be here in time, and the list goes on...

Time for plan B 😁

Off I went to the Dulux Decorating Center this morning and chose colours for the exterior.
It desperately needs painting but I was going to put it off till next year.

So here’s what you can do when things do not always go to plan
1. Accept the situation.
Since lockdown, delays with building supplies, paint etc seem to be a regular thing. Be prepared for delays when ordering.
Figure out how to get your needs met and don’t let other people’s issues get you down.
2. Time for Plan B.
Just like me, you got your builder or decorator booked but is there anything else that can be doing? Can they start working on something else instead? How about that ongoing list of unfinished DIY jobs. Ask if they can help you.? Why not use your time to source other materials for upcoming projects.
3. Learn from the experience.

Relying on other people to do the work is always tricky but I found a way to make it work, that’s all that matters.

Monochromatic - The brief for this board was a small South-Facing family bathroom.

I choose a blue colour scheme in various tints, tones, and shades 💙🤍🖤

A timeless and neutral colour combination to suit the whole family.

Sharing a bathroom with the rest of the family can be hectic at times so a relaxing colour, like blue, would calm on busy mornings.

What is a monochromatic scheme?

A colour scheme that uses just one colour from the colour wheel.

To make it appear less dull, use enough tints, tones and shades of that colour.
That way, the overall feel is very relaxing.

Colour Concept - I am currently working on colour scheme for a client's living room.

I created two different boards, based on their brief and preferences.

A concept board is a great starting point for any new design.
It is made of images to represent the mood and feel of the space you are designing.

Why is a concept board so important?

1. It clarifies your vision for the project
It will remind you of the purpose and how you would like the end result to be

2. It keeps your scheme cohesive

3. Come up with 2 different colour concepts
Play around with it to fit your different needs

Now they’ve chosen the winning colour scheme, I can’t wait to source their items.

Home Staging Tip - The Kitchen

You don't always need to spend a lot of money or a new kitchen when selling your home.

Instead, you can stage the space and make it a desirable kitchen using simple, proven staging techniques like these

1. Always start with a good clean so it sparkles
2. Remove most items and clutter from the kitchen counter. Put away in cupboards
3. Remove items from the refrigerator, like pictures, magnets and stickers. Anything stuck on makes it look untidy
4. Replace old or broken door handles
5. If your kitchen cabinets are very old, dated or look worn, give a lick of paint
6. Display beautiful flowers and/or a fruit bowl (lemons or green apples are my favourite) to add some colour

Moodboard Friday!
I recently took a short break to Devon and visited lots of beautiful beaches

The lovely beach huts in pastel colours reminded me of 50’s style

This inspired me to create a historical mood board, showing a 1950’s design influences seen today

Do you love pastel colours in your home?

Spent 4 days in East Devon and came across this amazing lighting shop, Amos Lighting in Topsham.

I could have bought the whole store but walked away with 4 items in the end.
Plus the car was full by then, at least that was my excuse for not buying more 😂

I'd been looking for a unique floor- and table lamp for months, till I saw these 😍

Beautifully handmade designs by Stuart Lamble Designs
I’m loving the simplicity and clean lines.

If your near or passing Topsham, Amos is a must-visit for lighting, mirrors, and bits of furniture.

I’ll leave my wallet home next time! 😉

Who doesn’t love a bit of upcycling?

For a while, I’ve been looking for a tall vase. I just couldn’t find the right height or colour.

Then I snapped one up for £2 at a carboot. Bargain!

All it needed was a facelift.

1. I applied one coat of Zinsser primer/sealer, left to dry overnight
2. Bought 3 different spray paints and started with the 2 different grey/blues first. Left to dry overnight
3. Final layer was the stone spray for a textured effect
4. Styled with 2 stems of eucalyptus

You don’t always need to buy new or expensive decorative items for the home.

Who else is fan of upcycling?

Goodbye yellow walls and grey skirting boards, Hello fresh looking hallway.

A few months ago I shared my concept board for this hallway paint transformation.

Painting has now been done and I’m delighted with the result.

I chose 2 beautifull colours from the Dulux Heritage range.
Perfect for this Southwest facing hallway that gets a lot of light.

Painting the walls and skirting boards in the same colour ( ) make these high ceilings look even taller.

I went for a light, airy and fresh look, with muted white and a light grey ( ) for some contrast.

Next, adding the finishing touches, plants and artwork will complete the look.

Look out for the next post to show you the end result.
