Lovely new offer from our friends at Ore Community Centre 😊

Kids' cooking classes this summer holiday at the Sunflower Cafe (Ore Community Centre). Learn how to make some yummy food then eat together.

This is a pay what you can initiative. It is unfunded. We ask parents/carers to pay what they feel they can afford, with a suggested donation of £4 per session. This is to help us cover the costs of the food and an extra helper in the cafe Donations will be taken via an anonymous donations box.

IMPORTANT: a parent/adult carer must stay at the cafe during the session. They can join I the session, or relax in our lovely garden with a cup of tea.

To book, or ask any questions, drop by the cafe, or email [email protected]

We’re pleased to share the latest insights from our community survey, which acts as a temperature check on the 35,000+ charities and good causes in our network.

Across the 5,000 food banks utilising our platform, an estimated 225,000 people are going unsupported each week due to lack of resources.

Hearing about these challenges can feel demoralising but we also hear many stories of resilience and hope from the amazing individuals working tirelessly in small charities around the country.

This is why we’re proud to champion events like Small Charity Week who also work to amplify, support and connect small charities across the UK.

Read our latest blog, in the comment section, to find out more about the results of our survey.

As we settle into the New Year we wanted to tell you about some exciting changes coming up!

As you know we are part of the Good Food East Sussex collective with Food Matters - Charity East Sussex County Council Public Health and the other East Sussex Food Partnerships. To enable a stronger focus on Hastings priorities we have now become a standalone network and all of our efforts will now be concentrated on the Hastings and St Leonards areas. This change is supported by additional funding from Public Health for which we are very grateful.

Rother food work is moving back to Rother Voluntary Action and we will be working together over the next few months to enable a smooth transition.

Hastings Food Network is moving to in person gatherings from January and will be meeting on Wednesday 24th January from 10.30 at the Warming Up The Homeless hub in Hastings town centre.

Meeting in person will encourage opportunities for networking and collaboration between Hastings food partners and a more strategic focus on our 2024 action plan.

We will be continuing our work with Feeding Britain, working more closely with The Tressell Trust at a local and national level and joining Sustain: The Alliance For Better Food And Farming as a membership organisation too so there is lots happening!

If you are a food producer, business, project or organisation or work in any way with food in areas such as poverty, health or education then you would be most welcome to join our network.

Contact [email protected] for meeting details or call 07513 234 307.
