Do you carve pumpkins for Halloween?

There weren’t many pumpkins left when I decided I wanted to carve a pumpkin this year

This one already had a hole and some defects

Got me thinking

People were avoiding this pumpkin

But they would have been carving it anyway so why?

I think I did a pretty good job

It’s my birthday!

Okay it’s not MY birthday but it is my business anniversary

I decided I wanted to do something to help others

I started researching and spent time reading, learning and training

Then 5 years ago I started thinking of names

The Positive Mindset was born

I had help with my logo and website from friends

BOOM

COVID

I thought that was the end of my business

No more face to face interactions

BUT

One of my clients asked if we could continue online

I’d only ever worked with people face to face

I was nervous

Did more research

Talked to the people I trained with

Gathered evidence

There were a few issues at first

Networks dropping out

How do you work around that?

Fast forward to 2024

90% of my clients are online

I can reach and help more people

The reason I started this business in the first place was to help people like you

“I can be having the worst day, but when I walk in here and talk to you, I just feel so much better”

Someone said this to me last week

They said it out of the blue

“I was having an awful day, didn’t even want to come here today, but just walking in here has made me feel better”

I love hearing people tell me they feel better, that I’ve helped them to feel that way

But in reality I can’t make them feel anything they don’t want to feel

Sometimes we just need a little help and guidance, and that’s where I can help you

I can’t just have one glass can I?

This is what my client said to me on our 3rd session

We had been working together to help reduce their alcohol consumption

Opening a bottle of wine when they got home from work, but then finishing it and then sometimes opening another

They came to me because they only wanted to have one glass on a night while they were cooking

After our 3rd session they said to me “I can’t just have one glass, can I?”

I asked them what they wanted and they said that they wanted to give up all together

That was their decision, their choice

They have been sober for over two years now

Do you want to know the secret to a happy healthy life?

We are all different and what makes me happy will be different for you

What do you do if you offer something to someone and they say "No" ?

Are you a Mrs Doyle?

Please don't be a Mrs Doyle.

If someone says "No" to;

a slice of cake
an alcoholic drink
an extra portion
a line of coke
to go shopping
an entry on the sweepstake you are running in the office

Don't push them, don't make them explain themselves.

Accept their "No" graciously and move on.

They will have a good reason for saying no.

You pushing them could undo any hard work they have put in to get to the point where they can actually say "NO" to you.

We are all fighting our own inner demons, don't make them fight you as well.

Do you ask what people want?

This is not one of those “I bought a homeless person a meal deal” posts

However I do want to share something with you about assumptions

There is a guy I see regularly with his dog outside of our local Aldi UK

He always has a bag full of food, drinks and dog food that people have bought him

A few months ago I asked him if there was anything he would like

He looked at the bag and said he had enough, but thank you

I asked him again, is there something you really fancy that you don’t have?

He looked and said he would like one of the yoghurts in the pouches

Off I went into the shop bought him a couple and something for the dog

When I handed them to him he was surprised, I don’t know why because he had asked for them

Maybe he thought I wouldn’t bother or forget

Last week I saw him again sitting outside and picked up a couple more yogurts

He was beaming when I gave them to him because I said I remembered he liked them

Although next time I will ask him if he still wants the yogurt or if he’d prefer something else

Like I said at the beginning this isn’t me telling you I gave a homeless guy food

This is a post that can be relatable to anything and anyone

Don’t assume, ASK what they want, what they need

Sometimes we want to be left alone, want a hug, need to cry or laugh, have company or just sit in silence with you near

But asking will help you and them navigate through whatever it is that they need help with

3 very small words with a very big impact

How often do you tell your partner you love them, at least once a day?

Your children, once or twice a day?

Your parents, once a week or month on your catch up call?

How often do you say it to yourself?

Once a day, week, month, year?

Most people don't actually say that they love themselves

But these 3 little words are so important in our self care, there have been a number of psychology studies which agree that self love and compassion are key for our mental health and wellbeing, and will keep depression and anxiety at bay

So if you only do one thing this week look at yourself in the mirror and say at least once a day, and while you're at it tell the people around you more often how much you love them and how much they mean to you

I guarantee you will feel better and I am sure you will make their day

Is it a w**d or is it a flower?

What is a w**d?

The dictionary classes a w**d as

“a wild (not deliberately cultivated) plant growing where it is not wanted”

So does that mean even a rose could be classed as a w**d if it is growing where it isn’t wanted?

Our thoughts could be classed as w**ds

If they are not wanted

Growing into something we don’t want

There are many metaphors used in hypnotherapy that include gardens

Weeding

Caterpillars turning into butterflies

Following a path

My question to you is
